I have read numerous threads on removing a silencer ring and how easy it can be, but I have tried, tried again, and now I really don't know what elese there is to do. The ends of the ring are in an eleven o'clock position so it is tough for me to get to. I've tried using 2 flat head screwdrivers without luck. Is there a "silencer ring removal tool" available to do this modification?

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated!!

After you remove your intake hose so the turbo blades and silencing ring are exposed, crawl underneath your truck, now if you look between your frame, crossmember and your oil pan you should have an unobstructed view.

Take a small flat blade screwdriver and work it in between the snap ring and the silencing ring, gently pry the snapring out of it's groove and work it around the circumference of the turbo, it should come right out. After that, just pull the silencing ring out and put your truck back together!

Mine is in the same spot as yours is :{ I have used a small right angel pick and still nothing. I have given up :(

I tried to get mine out also..... Ive taken them out of my last 3 trucks and several of my friends, but on my 06 the snap ring is cut on the ends to where you cant get an ice pick under either one of the ends. i gave up too.

Well, I guess I am out of luck... ... Thanks for your replies..... If anyone elese out there can help HO Brian, jnelson, and myself, we would all appreciate it !!

Popped mine out of the 06 in about 10 seconds even though it's harder to get to than my 01... Location, Location, Location! Use a tiny flat blade screw driver and get it between the angle cut part of the ring and the turbo housing and pry it out of the groove, then just pull it out. If you still have problems stop by and I'll do it for you! :-laf

The retainer ring is cut at an angle, so you have to see what side to work on. One will be easy because it's got a point you can get under, while the other side will seem impossible to get ahold of.

Alright, you all have re-inspired me..... I'll try it again today... ... . hopefully I will have some good news... ... . Thanks.

Try using a mirror to see the ring while working on it.

Go out and buy a cool blue hose kit, from diesel power products. Its an awesome inprovement and you'll like the sound of your turbo much more

I got mine out real easy by using a dental pick, the kind the dentist use. You can get the dental picks at a lot of flea markets and some large auto parts stores.

Will the cool blue hose kit work with my Quadzilla air intake?..... Tried an Afe recently and it wouldn't work... ... .

Ok, now I'm scratching my head. I've installed an afe Pro Guard filter with the Torque Tube, replacing the stock tube. Are you telling me there is still a "silencer ring" that I can take out? I thought the "silencing" was from the accordian baffles in the stock tube... Please, somebody clarify...

The ends look like this. . I've done a few and never was unable to get them out. It can be done with one flat bladed screwdriver. Once you lift the first part of the ring out of the groove try and make the ring come forward out of the inlet.

check out this thread for pictures of the silencer ring and its location silencer ring

No to insult, but that just added more confusion. I didn't want a lesson in "Jet Engine Propulsion", I just wanted to know where this so called "silencer ring" is. The one in that thread appeared to be inside and part of the inlet elbow, or stock tube. The one others are talking about sounds like it's in the turbo inlet housing. Are we talking about two different things here????
