 I am blushing as I ask this, but is there anywhere that a rookie CTD owner can look the see the specifics of where this ring is and what you have to do to remove it?( ie. a website or some pictures). This is probally a really stupid question to you veterans, and I apologize for it in advance.

P. S. I did a search on it and I didn't see the info there. If it is and I missed it I'm sorry for the bother:(

Pull the air inlet hose off the turbo. Look inside the turbo inlet and you see a silver disk the diameter of the housing I. D. There is a snap ring holding it in. Use a small screwdriver to remove the snap ring and disk, reinstall the hose and you are done. It should take no more than 5 minutes.

ok... stupid question #2 related to this thread... does it make that much of a difference??... even us with the o3's??..... is it just a nice sweet sound or is there performance enhancements along that sweet noise( i dig my turbos sound now... soooooo sweeeeet)

HP increase w/o silencer ring

I have heard (rumors) that removing it will cause you to lose almost a whopping 2 hp. Now I dont know that to be a fact. But just the same, I do have mine removed. needed something to battle the sound of stacks in a RC... . :D

re:silencer ring

Thanks to all for the insight. :) I followed the instructions that you gave and am thrilled. Oo. Oo. While I was in there i got a little carried away and just went ahead and removed the baffles in the air inlet tube as well. Sweet music to my ears!!!!

Ok, I can't get the retaining ring out. I tried about everything. There has got to be a trick. I got so frustrated, I am still looking for some of my tools in the yard. Somebody save me.

I believe 2 small screwdrivers will do the trick, get one under one end of the ring and then use the other to wedge underneath and start to work around till ring is out!!:) Hopefully this helps.

I wedged one under the end of the ring enough to get the other one underneath the ring and lift outward and then alternated positions till it popped free!! Try this I"ll keeep an eye out and see how it goes!!;)

For what it is worth, I was able to pop out the ring on my 01 almost with my fingers. HOWEVER, I had one heck of a time with my 03. After whispering sweet nothing to the turbo about my sawzall and that F@#&*ing ring. :-{} It just decided to cooperate on a cool morning without the engine warm. :D

I know this is an old thread. I decided to take my silencer ring out after reading this. It took maybe 5 minutes. If you look at the retaining ring, they have slanted points (if that makes any sense). On mine, the two points were at the top in the center of the inlet of the turbo. At the left point I was able to get a screw driver between the ring and the sidewall of the turbo and pry it out enough to get my fingers on it. I drove it and did not notice a Huge difference, but I will leave it out.

Thanks,

Derek

I removed mine this morning, it didn't take long at all was pretty easy to come out. Noticeably a little louder, but still a nice sound. Took a look at how to remove the baffles, what's the trick in removing them do they snap out or what or does it make any difference if you remove them. Oo.

my silencer ring was a little stubborn to get out, but that could be due to the position of the snap ring opening. the opening on mine was in the 9:00 position so i couldn't see it at all...
