Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Silencer Ring Removal

Hey guys. Rig is in the shop tomorrow to get front U-joints. But when I get it back, I want to 86 the silencer ring. Ive pretty confident with the things Ive done, but I love getting pre-op advice on this site! So, anybody got any tips on the ring removal? Grateful as always.

Get a small screwdriver and pry out the retainer ring, easy, and get ready for the noise!

Never put it back in. There have been reports of members putting it back only to find the snap ring has become turbo snacks.



Guess the removal may take away some of the spring of the snap rings. So when you remove it, throw it away!

I had quite a time using only one flat head to get it out. What worked in about 2 seconds for me was two small flatheads. Use one on the part of the ring where it snaps together where you can get the corner up, then put the other one inside the little space you have just made and pry up. It should slide right out.
