I was reading the info on turbochargers last night before bed ( the lady thinks I'm wacked ) and the issue of silencer ring came up. What's the purpose of this, besides the obvious?

What would I gain, or loose by removing it?

I love this truck, maby I am wacked!

You take it out if you want to hear the turbo whistle when the boost comes up. No gain or loss in performance. Just makes for a better show :D when you “whistle” by the neighbors, right guys?

Thanks 99, she's whistleing just fine for now, mabey i'll take it out when I start to loose my hearing. Gotta save some mods for later!

The louder the better. :D Just kidding, its up to you. I prefer to hear the turbo whistle but for some folks it is just annoying. But they don't ride in my truck.

With the windows up and stock airbox I couldn't really hear a difference either way. If you roll the right window down, you can hear it a little louder. The stock airbox and filter is the main thing. BHAF will make the lack of silencer very noticable.

Silencer ring

with your 6spd transmission and the bhaf you will hear the turbo well mine is a 99 reg cab 4x4 with the 6spd also, with the K&N filter and anyone that rides with me says it is annoying. I personally love the whistle. It takes two seconds to remove or reinstall so you are really out nothing. Mine is also running a JVD Torque Enhancer boost elbow, and no mufflers that really make it scream. :D :D
