Well…I did it. I couldn’t take it anymore. The curiosity was killing me. At 9:00 am this morning the silencer ring was removed. Had a little trouble using the single small flat head screwdriver procedure. I opted to use a large flat head screwdriver to lever out the end of the ring that angled towards the housing. Then I used the small one to keep it from popping back into place and worked my way around. No scratches in the housing, but the grove for the snap ring no longer has a perfect 90* corner on it. It shaved about ¼ of a hairs width off the edge. A little tack cloth and it’s clean.
It only seemed about 25% louder than normal on the acceleration, no difference in holding a constant speed, but the wind down between shifting was about 50% louder. Bear in mind that this is with my modified aFe intake. I think that this one I will be able to sneak by the 'ol lady with out her noticing.
I give it a
rating.
Logic states that it should be drawing more air in now that the outer edges of the fins can collect air. I know the reports say that there is no HP or torque gains, but shouldn’t it be spooling up a little faster, or moving more cfm?
