I took the silencer ring off my turbo and there is no difference in the sound. In fact, there really is no turbo whine. I heard a PSD that had a loud whine- it sounded cool, but I'm sure it would probably get old after while...
Take the air filter tube off, and use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry up the snap ring in front of the silencer. Once that is out, the silencer plate will pull right out, if it don't fall out first. There is an opening to get the snap ring started, somewhere around it, you can feel for it with your finger, if you don't see it right off.
