silencer ring?

i need something to do today an i keep reading about everyone removing this ringOo..... how do u remove it? do it myself or have shop do it?

It is a do it yourself project. It is located in the tube that goes between the air filter and the turbo. I have not personally removed mine because it is there to reduce the noise from the turbo (Whine)

and I am trying to keep mine quiet. Can't be too hard though, it you get it off more than likely it will be easy to see just how it comes apart.

here is the ANSWER:



Remove the air hose. With a flat-blade screw drive, gently pry out the ring. It's not in a grove and there are no holes in it for ring pliers.

If you are running the stock airbox and hose, the noise level is negligible. I was a little disappointed when I took mine out last week. Believe it or not, my wife wants it louder.

It took me about 30 seconds to take off myself and I had never done one before so it's not difficult to do. If I can do it, you can do it.

Remove the intake tube at the turbo and airbox. The ring is in the turbo held in place by a snap ring with no holes. You just have to jimmy a pick or screwdriver around to pop the snap ring out. Once it's out the silencer ring falls right out.

I took mine out, it was very easy. Drove around the block, and promptly put it back in. It sounded like a disorganized glee club, kinda reminded me of a Ford. Maybe with modified intake, etc. it would be worthwhile, I just don't see the use, especially if it's designed to help improve the turbulance.

we are talking about the plastic piece inside the elbow bewtween the air box and the turbo right? mine had no snapring. just had to jimmy it out of the elbow. made very little diff... ... ... but i then got that powercoated pipe from genoes to replace the vain intake thing... . now it sounds better

No. The silencer ring is not in the tubing. It's on the turbo.

Purely a noise maker. Won't help or hurt anything. Some like the sound, some don't.

I took mine out and saw 7pound drop in boost and EGT's went up 200. I put it back in the next day.

Thanks, I did remove it and i hear a little more turbo, (also have a 5" from the down pipe back). I did notice in the air intake a x shaped baffle, whats that for? I am guessing to steady the air flow into the turbo. ? Just trying to get better fuel mileage without breaking the bank. Thanks everyone for the input.

that baffle is for noise reduction... take it out, you'll like the scream. you can buy a chrome exhaust pipe section from Airflo that will replace that baffled portion.



I've got one at the house that's not doinig anything, but I have no idea when I'll be back home!
