Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) silencer ring?

i have heard about people taking the silencer rings out of their turbos on there secound gens which makes the turbo louder. is there such a thing and if so will it hurt the turbo or the engine in any way?

Its only purpose is to do as the name suggests. Silence the whistle from the turbo. Most do not have one. Only if speced by the OEM.

I've had my silencer ring out for a couple years. After taking it out, I couldn't tell any difference other than the sound. Also, it's easy to put back in if you don't like it.



With my PSM modded stock airbox running an AFE PG7 filter and no silencer ring, the turbo is fairly loud. Same setup but substitute HD paper filter for AFE and it really quiets down.
