Silencer Ring?!?

Hey Guys, Help educate me here. Second time around that I've read something about turbo "silencer rings" and I gotta confess I don't have a clue as to what they are. I've looked through my shop manuals and they don't shed any light. My parts list leaves off right after "Bearings, muffler... ". If "silencer rings" are the way to go I'd like to get one before the next Snipe-hunt.
Also thanks for the input on exhaust scroll size on the turbo. Probably going to go ahead with the non-gated 12 project.

'84 Ramcharger w/CTD, non-gated 18, torqflite, NP205, Dana 60 and 70 w/ 3. 07s. Looks more or less stock, doesn't quite sound stock either.

Jones, The ring is on 94 & up motors. most guys yank them out vs. installing one. Its a small ring held in the inlet side of the turbo via a spring clip. You'll find this matter alot on 2nd gen section. Mike
