Ok, I admit my ignorance. I have no idea what a "silencer ring" is.

What does it do? Is it necessary? If not, how do you remove it? What will happen when I do remove it? Can I reinstall it?

Is there anyone that prints a book or publishes an Idiots Guide To Bombing Your Dodge? I am new to this Bombing thing, what the heck does BomBing stand for anyway? I am looking at adding guages in the near future. Is autometer the way to go?

Let me know, I was warned not to enter this site because it is addictive. I don't believe it. I have total control of my wants and desires. If I continue to tell myself this will it help?

It won't help.......

Welcome to the idiots guide to BOMBing your truck. Or TDR for short. If you can't find the answers here you haven't looked :p

BOMB = Better Off Modified Baby!!

As far as the silencer ring. It's inside the turbo housing if you remove the air box to turbo hose. There is a clip that holds it in. I hear you need a new one usually if you want to replace it. Basically makes the turbo whine more. I personally like the sound of the 4" exhaust better.

Gauges are a matter of personal preference. Do a search and you'll find lots of threads on that issue. Just make sure you do them first. Always good to know what each mod is doing to your truck.

Once again..... Welcome to the TDR and BOMB's away:D :D

Hi GBARBER. As you can see from my sig, my silencer ring fell off some time ago. It is located on the intake side of the turbo and is easily removed. Just remove the rubber intake boot that goes from the airbox to the turbo and look at the turbine. Right next to that you will see the silencer ring and the snap ring that holds it in. Remove both and walla, you will notice the whine that real diesels have. Its only purpose is to cut down the swirling currents at high boost pressures. Some believe that you would lose performance because it is not a smooth shot into the turbo, but I noticed no difference.

Bomb in theory stands for Better Off Modified though the B on the end is redundant. I run Auto-Meter Ultra-Light series Guages and are really happy with them however some here have complained about them fogging in high humidity climates. Anyway enough said, welcome to TDR.

silencer ring, etc

silencer ring or not to silencer ring apparently turns out to be a personal preference item. mine fell out (be careful about aluminum filings after removal, from the turbo throat), then went back in yesterday. unfortunately a lot of the extra turbo sound you hear is a very high pitched whine, which i found unpleasant after awhile. removing the snorkel from the airbox to the fender well probably helps it breathe more. i have tried the box with several large holes drilled in the bottomn part, and a "big honkin air filter", and currently have the airbox back in. air filters are a frequent item on tdr, and almost nobody has an opinion  if you want an oiled filter there are at least 2 options besides k and n--western diesel and amsoil.

lots of luck and fun with your toy:D
