Another dumb question. I have been reading that some of you all have taken the "silencer ring" off. Can some one educate me on this subject please? Are there any benifets to takeing it off? Thanks in advance. Edgeman

The ring in the compressor side of your turbo that keeps the whine down. I have read several posts that people say it doesn't increase power at all. One of these days I plan to try that out for myself on the dyno.

The silencer ring is like a muffler for your Turbo. Take your intake hose off your turbo, and you will see it snapped in by a snap ring. The only advantage to taking it off is to hear your turbo scream in the cab.

Don't know why, but I lost 1 mpg with my ring off while towing my 5er (from 13 to 12). I put it back on after two tanks of fuel. My theory is the turbulance of the intake air flow is increased with it off. Could it have been the heavier foot so I could hear the whistle?

For me it makes turbo 'barking' go down.

I have not noticed any power, mileages changes etc. I have noticed the increase in whine. Add a Mega Cannon and you can go from whine to jet engine. I tell people at work that the truck is turbine powered just like the hydro's are.
