Warm up with Jacobs Brake on

Let's put this rumor to rest

I took my silencer ring out as the first Bomb. Now my turbo grew into a HX40. With the AFE MegaCannon air filter my partner at work says he can hear me coming from the end of the block. That it sounds like a JET!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

One of the Cummins engineers at Columbus told me that the ring actually does help with airflow. But I don't know if it's significant enough for us to notice. The consensus here seems to be that there's no performance change with the ring removed. Pitching that boot between the stock airbox and the fender picks up the turbo noise quite nicely.

silencer ring

I removed mine, and could not hear the whistle that every one is referring to. does having the BhAF make a difference? cause it gets unrestricted air better? or do you have to really work the heck out of it to make it whistle. with no success, i put it back in. just wondering.

The BHAF (or anything without the airbox) makes a ton of difference. I actually reinstalled my ring with the BHAF on, but pulled it right back out. Love the noise. ;)

Wade, wade, wade... ... . Make up your mind!:p

after a headache a couple weeks ago, i reinstalled mine (k&n). i couldn't take the ear piercing sound all the time around 20 psi. you know it's loud when other vehicles roll up thier windows as you drive by! :D

re ; silencer ring

then it should be heared to some degree standing still, by the hood, and also with it opened. driving, i could not hear it even getting on it, no difference. at 65 mph and bring boost up to18-22. boost was about 1#, very low. usually about 3# when doing the speed limit. oh well----

Could be hearing loss.

Get your ears checked. You should be able to hear the turbo with SR in with boost. Can you hear the turbo on a big truck when he accelerates? I can hear them coming a mile away. Get side by side with a big rig on a hill. Preferably on a road with extra lanes. ;)

If you cain't hear the big boys whine, then you'll never hear the lil' HX35.

Hey MLee

I just showed a friend about the silencer ring. We took it out and took it for a drive. He says there some more A$$ behind it now but doesn't notice the sound change. He also has the BHAF on a 95, 12vTD 3500 swb dually. Let off the gas and the clutch took off in 3rd gear. Pretty cool. Just thought this might change your mind on keeping it in or out. Good luck

can't hear it???

I took the air box off and made my own BHAF with a 2" long piece of 4" pvc and a Amsoil aif filter (TS-111). HOLY COW! If I didn't have 6 speakers I don't think the wife would ride with any more. At around 2000 RPMs, even with no load, It's louder than some of the big cars! With a few thousand pound behind 'er you can hear it just off idle. Even more so when it's cold - moves more air I suppose.

I live a mile and a half outside of a small town in South Dakota. Around here, agriculture is the #1 industry. If ya ain't farmin', yer probly driving yer own bull wagon. I get more thumbs up from truckers and high school kids than you can imagine! (got a straight pipe too) Silencer ring is coming out today! I should be able to run for mayor then! Stacks would definately get me in by a land slide vote.

Re: can't hear it???
