I have read that you SHOULD remove the silencer ring, and I have read that removing it whould have no effect.

To remove or not to remove, that is the question.

Take it out.........

My opinion is to take it out. It does not do anything for you performance wise if it is in or out. The only difference that you will notice with it OUT is more whistle from the turbo. I like the sound that it makes with the SR gone. Sounds like a big rig's turbo. Music to my ears.

It takes about 15 minutes to remove it. If you don't like what you hear, you can always put it back in.

RRoton,

It is perfectly fine to leave it in. As JSykes says, it is very easy to remove/re-install. If you would like more turbo whistle, take it out. If you don't want it any louder leave it in. No harm either way (no performance gains, either).

You do not have to remove the silencer ring, removing the silencer ring just makes the turbo louder, its just personal preference. I like to hear the turbo whistle. I took mine out yesterday it took maybe 15 minutes. If you don't like the sound just reinstall the ring.

If you decide to remove the silencer ring do a search on the forums, someone had pictures and directions posted. It just takes a small screwdriver to pop the retainer snap loose and out comes the silencer ring.
