Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Silencer Ring

Forgive my ignorance but I have heard a few people talk about taking out the silencer ring from the turbo. What exactly does that do performance wise?

Not a thing! Just makes the turbo louder

For performance, absolutely nothing, nada, zero, zilch. When combined with a BHAF or other "free flowing" air cleaner, it definately increases the "cool factor" by letting that turbo sing its song.
