Silent recall on Goodyear tires?

Take a look at this LA Times story about Goodyear tires, load range E, on the breaking news. "tread separation involving its 16-inch Load Range E light-truck tires has been linked to 120 injuries and 15 deaths. " Yikes!!

I have gone through 5 of these, where they would get a bubble in the sitewall, down near the rim beed. Wonder if this was the tread starting to seperate? I still have 2 sitting at home I took off when I switched to Cooper SRM II's.


Also, thanks for the URL, I posted it to the RV group. Many owners have had problem with the marathon tires, and there was a blurb about them on the bottom.

Goodyear makes good racing slicks... . but every other **** tired they make is junk! Ive tried them all... Wranglers to Marathon trailer tires, and have nothing but complaints about the product. Just Say No!

This might explain why 3 of my tires have an inward ripple in the sidewall area. I hope getting them taken care of will be easy. Thanks for this valuable info.

I agree that Goodyear may not make the best light truck tire, my limited experience supports that conclusion. However, I have never had anything but Goodyears on my car, it came with them, and I replaced with them. Never a flat tire, or any other problem, except they tend to be optimistic on their expected mileage claims. No big deal, I just get each new set for about 75% the retail price on a proration. Starting my 5th set at 207000 on the car. They also seem to be on a lot of big rigs. Don't mean to start an argument, but I think it is a little unfair to call all Goodyear tires junk. There is always two sides to every story.

The latest Consumer Report puts them at the bottom of the list. Glad I got rid of mine and replaced them with 285 BFG's
