So, what all swaps to the backside of our 5. 9 easily?

How about one of these:

#ad

#ad

It came from an older cab-over tractor with a 350 cummins in it...

I know that anything is possible, given enough work (hey, I run a Ford 302 in front of a Toyota transmission in my Isuzu!), but I'm not looking for that big of a project on the Dodge...

Whattayasay, is there a bellhousing available to mount this Fuller 15-speed?

I've been searching around the 'net to no avail -- does anyone know the gear ratios in this lightweight little transmission? :p

Randii

I would bet money Cummins makes a bellousing for that trans for our 6BTA's.

But those do not have any overdrive ratio's in them. So you are still limited by your rear end gearing. Now if you could find something like a 9 spd with the top two gears overdrive ratios stepping down to a . 85:1 for 8th gear and a . 75:1 for 9th. That would make a sweet setup. The . 75:1 overdrive with a 4:10 gear would make a nice setup. With the 25% percent drop in OD high you would have a over all ratio of 3:07. With the . 85:1 being a 15% OD you would end up with a ratio of 3:50.

This way you could run the steep 4:11's for start off with a load,. Then after you have the speed up. Then your into a good road gear. :D

A few months ago i was at the frieghtliner dealer and walking threw the shop and saw a school bus with a b59 24 valve engine. Wasnt even a H. O. It had allison auto. I inguired to a tech about it he said only draw back putting it in a Dodge truck was it was ecm controled. I was really curious about size but thats as far as it went. Wonder if earlier versions available that wasnt ecm controled?Just a thought. Maybe its already been discussed?

yeah, baby. If you're gonna go, go big I say. If you can find a id tag on the side of the transmission I can tell you the ratio numbers inside. If its a 15 chances are the it will have an overdrive ratio. I'm also sure that you can come up with a bellhousing to match it up to the 6bt because I've seen off road rigs with that exact setup, although I believe they used a RTO 12509 which has nine speeds rather than 15.

Divorced case 205 would do you good. Then you wouldn't need that CV joint set that our trucks run on them. You would have a long enough shaft to delete it.

The data plate has the following information:

Fuller 907-7095-5 RT915 V-003737

As for hooking it up to the Dodge, I have a club-cab, so there's plenty of wheelbase for driveline shortening/lengthening.

I agree with others -- a divorced 205 makes sense, and this might require a bit of floorpan work. :p

Dean, it would be great if you could get back to me with the gear splits!

Randii

It doesn't have overdrive. The number would have to start RTO.

As far a the floor board have seen a couple of trucks where a body lift was all that was needed. The proper bellhousing is available.

I've heard of people stuffing in RTO-6610 10sp in Rams. There is supposedly a company in Portland that had done these mods and there is even a TDR member that has one in his 24V, I'd have to go back and do a search to get the info. But I would much prefer something like a RTX-11609B 9sp, one less redundant gear below the normal starting gear ratio like 2nd in our Getrags. I also had another brainstorm, what about taking a bullet proof transmission like a NP435, cut the output shaft short and mount a two speed unit like a US gear on the back. Would still be shorter than the NV5600, have a better split, granny 1st and reverse, and final overdrive ratio. The US gear would still marry to the NP205. Just a thought.

Mike

She's not an overdrive transmission. The gear splits go like this.

1st 12. 00/8. 05

2nd 9. 42/6. 30

3rd 7. 45/4. 99

4th 5. 90/3. 95

5th 4. 78/3. 20

6th 2. 51

7th 1. 97

8th 1. 56

9th 1. 24

10th 1. 00

If you need anymore info just let me know

Interesting... overdrive is where I want to fine-tune. The other ratios are less useful since I'm not trying to accelerate 80K down the road.

Possible, I suppose, but that thing is just three-speed granny, in the end... there are a few ratios available (most popular: 6. 68, 3. 34, 1. 66, 1. 0 and 4. 78, 2. 39, 1. 37, 1. 0). With 80% OD that gets: 5. 344, 2. 672, 1. 096, 0. 8 and 3. 824, 1. 912, 1. 096, 0. 8. Those three speeds, any way you cut 'em, I think would hurt driveability -- gas motors have a wider power band. Also, I'm not sure the NP435 could stand up to a bombed Cummins!

Developing the silly direction even further, think about putting a divorced 205 behind the RT915... turning backward? You'd have granny at 6:1 and four driveable primary gears, backed up split secondaries, and overdrives from 0. 985, 0. 78, 0. 62, 0. 5... and you'd still have the full low gears available in 4WD.

Randii (of the wild hares)

How many gears on the RTOO9513?

I like that gear spread on the OD ratio's.

Another side point. No clutch need except to start off with. :D

According to the numbers, is a 13sp. I can't remember if it's the older Fuller straight stick 13 or a 9 with high range split. I've heard that the unit itself is fairly small, but I have yet to see one sitting on a shop floor, so I can't say. Your right about clutchless shifting, much easier on the left foot, especially here in Idaho!! BTW, that TDR member with the RTO-6610 is "preuber" and has a website for his hotshot trucking business. Also, here is a bit from another post about the place in Portland that has perfomed the Roadranger swap.
