When ID'ing the cylinder number, which is #1 #2 #3 etc? Do you count from front to back or back to front?

Need to explain intelligently to the tech which cylinder is NOT firing.

TIA

Thanks!

I also need to know what the DC Star procedure is and allocated shop time is for replacing one or more injectors. I use this truck in my work & down time is critical.

I had one replaced under warranty, so dont have a clue the shop time allocated. The process can be painful. First you have to convince the Service Manager that you have an injector problem. Then when you do, at least in my case they then called Star for instructions. The service department did everything they could to speed the process up and it still took 2 1/2 days and could have taken longer, they ordered the injector before they had final Star approval. This saved at least one day.

Well when I was up at Surrey BC. to have Bill Kondolay (DTT) do my transmission he put me in contqct with Piers H. who came to Bills shop and replaced all 6 injecters from stock 160 "s to 215"s in about one hour. So using my experience a pro can replace all six injectors in an hour or a little more. Who knows what the dealer will charge for shop time. In reality if you know what you are doing it takes about an hour or a little more. Not more than an hour and a half.

different story with us 3rd gen guys... they work changing them out is a little more, but not that much... getting the dealership to change out the ±$1k per injector is where the hard work is... they need to verify if an injector is bad. cutting it out isn't enough, they need to take out 2 injectors, swap them, and try the cut out again. if the noise moved, then the injector is bad, then the dealer needs to get star's approval to change out the injector... if they do it without star approval, they may not get payment from daimlerchrysler for the warrenty work, and no one likes to do work for free...

I'm not sure which symptom produces the "knocking" sound (too much or too little fuel?) but I think I have one or more that are stuck below 2000rpm. i. e. when starting under cold soak conditions, #4 & (#5 to a slightly lesser degree) are completely cold to the skin while the others are getting very hot to touch.

How does the dealer test for clogged injectors in the pilot mode?

Of course my next question is; Are there any after mkt injectors that work better & are more reliable?

I don't get it. These injectors are a big problem on the HPCR engine, yet no dealership keeps them in stock. As a matter of fact, the dealerships I've been to stock nothing more than fluids and filters. :(

LOL fluids and filters, that's their biggest profit! :-laf

The injectors are on the restricted parts list. The dealers do not have access to them. Star must release them to the dealer. The star agents will make the tech jump through hoops before they are authorized. Trust me,the techs do not like to call star, but it is the only way... ... ... As far as aftermarket injectors they are the same as what you have just modified nozzles for higher flow. One problem I have seen is people are sending in faulty injectors for cores and they are being modified and sent back out with out proper testing being done. :(
