I'm trying to decide if a stock nv4500 will hold up to 350-400hp, or if I need to start saving my pennies for a nv5600 conversioin. This truck doesn't tow very often, but on rare occasion may have 8-10k behind it. The truck is a daily driver and runs around empty 95-99% of the time.

Thanks,

Mike

Mine did.

I don't see a problem with the transmission holding that kind of HP. THe clutch, as you know, will not though.

Hey thanks for the reply. Got a question for you, didn't you destroy something in your transmission not too long ago? I think I recall watching you work on it at a TDR meeting in Pasadena. How much HP were you running when that happened, and what exactly broke?

Thanks again,

Mike

Mine was the 5th syncro gear. Actually, the snap ring on the end of the countershaft. It was allowing the 5th syncro assembly to ride too far on the ind of the shaft.

When I called Blumenthals and ordered the parts to fix it, they mentioned that this was something they had seen on several trucks and even had a different way of fixing it. Instead of one thick snapring, they sent me 2 narrow ones to use together.

I don't believe that the HP level had anything to do with that. I could be wrong though. At the time, I was running 405 RWHP which means the flywheel HP was around 450.

Another thing to consider would be the weight difference between your truck and mine. Mine was loaded pretty good wih it being a dually and having the heaving bumpers front and rear. Not to mention my lead foot. :D

Thanks again for all the advice. I'll not worry about it then.

Now I can get back to the more important task of trying to plan HP BOMBS. :D
