I am looking to add a cat back exhaust system to my truck and just wanted to get some advice/suggestions. The main thing that I am concerned with is in cab noise. I do not want anything that is much louder than stock. A little more noise under acceleration is ok but I don't want something that is loud going down the highway. I don't have much experience with duals on a cummins and didn't know if they are much louder than a single exit system. I really like the look of the duals but don't want more noise. Any and all help is much appreciated.

I rode in a truck with MBRP stainless duals, and it sounded sweet! Not loud, and it was great in stereo.

Much quieter than my Banks system before I added a MBRP muffler in addition to the Banks muffler.

I love my duals. Nothin sounds like a Cummins in stereo! Before I had my duals I ran factory with genos ME kit. Too loud for long interstate IMO. With my Silverlines the sound is much more mellow. Still a little loud in RPM drone zones for backseat passengers. (so i hear, I'm never back there) But up front, its perfect for me. I always load my truck with it running now, just so I can hear that sweet CTD burble in stereo.

BTW, MBRP and Silverline have sound clips on their sites. Not the same as on the truck, but a good starting point to find the sound yer lookin for.

Another bonus of duals... I've never seen another dual CTD system on the road unless I'm headed to a big diesel event. That may change, but for now it really sets ya apart.

Idea for ya... .

Other posts have suggested that the back wall of the cab is where much of the exhaust noise comes from. The above website sells sound dampening material much cheaper than dynamat, ect. Brown Bread, it's called. As soon as I get around to it, I'll line mine with the stuff. (I have no affiliation with them and as of yet have not even purchased from em. )

I don't mind the sound myself. Its not offensive by any means. When I'm alone, the windows are usually down anyways; just to hear the turbo/exh. But the wife likes it a little bit more subdued for the long trips. I'll throw a little bread in the back then everything's vanilla. Oo.

Looks like we are hijacking this thread sorry, but for those interested I did the brown bread sound dampening. It was ALOT of work for really only a small amount of noise reduction. I found blocking off one of the two rear cab air exhaust outlets one of the biggest gains in noise reduction.

Would I do it again, sorry no! it was to much work for a small benefit

But one added bonus the sound system sounds much better with the sound dampening :)
