can oem lp be used for extracting wvo?

Gas Pill

Any brave souls out there running SVO/WVO in a single-tank setup? I would love to hear about it. I'm ready to convert my CTD but I'm not happy with the below-bed aux tank options out there, they just cost too damn much.

I've got 5k miles on a 87' mercedes single tank setup and it's been working fantastic, fires right up every time. Granted, I'm in a moderate climate (SF Bay Area).

No blending. I plan to heat the svo in the lines and at the filter. Fleetguard makes a filter for heavy equipment that heats fuel with coolant and electric as needed; I'll also wrap a heater around the fuel line as it enters the injector. The overflow will heat the tank oil eventually.

I have put up to 10 gallons of filtered WVO into the tank then filled up with dino and no problems untill it gets close to the single digits. then it stated to smoke alot at start so i went back to strait dino for the winter.

I have run a 75% filtered WVO with #2. No problems at all. In fact, I ran about 3 months and ended up dropping the tank to install my Webasto, and everything was clean...

I noticed a power increase and 2 more MPG...

Not using it in the winter months...

I've converted a couple of 93 Dodges to single tank. One was for a guy in costa rica.

One thing to remember is that your mercedes(also converted lots of these to single tank) in IDI and a cummins is DI. IDI is much more forgiving when it comes to SVO.

I would not recommend a single tank on your truck(assuming 95) in your climate(SF).

It will work for a while... ... ... ...

Are you using the fattywagon injector line heaters?

Sorry I've been out of touch, just completed an awesome off-road trip in Baja. I wish I could have been running WVO...

RoverHybrid: What's the difference b/w the IDI and the DI and how does that effect the use of WVO? I'm not using the the line heaters you mention, should I?

IDI is InDirect Injection, DI Direct Injection. IDI preheats the fuel mixture and is thought to be better for the combustion of SVO/WVO.

Your Mercedes is very forgiving when it comes to WVO "conversions". What kind of system do you have on your mercedes now?

Based on studies that the viscosity of WVO is close to diesel at around 200F, and that WVO combusts at a high temp then dino diesel I support the theory that you should heat the WVO to as close to 200F as possible before the injectors.

The problem with single tank is that there is no (convienent)way to preheat the engine and the fuel to 200F before starting the engine. So essentially with a single tank system when you start your vehicle from cold you are running without any conversion.

The injection line heaters:

I have not personally tested them. The idea is that you can heat the WVO right before the injector, this is important IMO on single tank systems.

The benz uses a Fleetguard filter designed for heavy equipment that has electric and coolant heat running to the filter only. Brian at

www.lovecraftbiofuels.com did the work. It's a pretty staightforward, no frills conversion. What do you do to your CTD's?
