I've converted my 2500 to a dually. I actually swapped the axle and yes it is different in width. The axle itself is actually narrower, but the dually hubs are bigger, thus making the overall length (width) longer than a single wheeled axle. I think the overall difference, measuring from outer hub surface to outer hub surface is about 3 inches, so 1 1/2 inch spacer on each side would make the dimension the same. I could have gone this route, but I did not personally feel comfortable loading/towing on a single wheeled axle that way. I would recommend the axle swap to a dually axle. All the mounting points (driveline, spring mount, shocks, brakes, etc. ) are identical. Good luck, Trey
