Siphoning Diesel

Is siphoning diesel out of the fuel tank an option to remove fuel so that I can install the vent bomb?



It does not appear that I can get a hose past the bottom of the filler tube and actually reach the 1/8 tank fuel level.

Thats not an option, you need to drive it to empty and then once you lower the tank and have the filler hose disconnected you can siphon the rest out so you can clean the plastic shavings.

I drove and drove... It seems like the beast will suck diesel quickly all the time UNTIL I want it to! I got it down to dead on empty. I must have been getting 50 MPG while trying to get to empty. Tomorrow I'll see how much is really left in the tank.



Just in case, I have a 5 gallon tank of diesel standing by to give it some after the tank goes back in. It's a ways to the nearest gas station.

Yes, it is possible. On top of the fitting for the sending unit there is an auxillary fitting that is plugged. The plug is held on by a clamp that is something of a booger to remove, once removed stick a hose on the fitting and use a vacuum pump to remove fuel. I did this last week and it will get most of the fuel out. Oh yeah, the fitting is on the side of the sending unit that faces the front of the truck.
