Siphoning Fuel

Ok, I got lazy the other day. The nearest diesel is about 15 miles from my house and I needed fuel for the tractor. I figured I had at least 30 gallons sitting in the truck so I decided to siphon some out. (I did this a number of times on my “Brand F” without any problems). As I pushed the siphon hose into the filer neck, it seemed to stop at a point. Thinking it was at a bend in the neck, I worked it around and it continued into the tank, but right as I got past the sticking point I heard a “clunk” in the tank that sounded like I had pushed a part of some sort into the tank. Is there a screen or something in the neck that I broke free? Anybody else have this happen or was it just my imagination?

From other posts on the subject, I've heard there is some sort of ball "check valve" in the filler pipe - probably to PREVENT fuel siphoning... Or perhaps to minimize fuel foam from backing up excessively? At any rate, sounds like you managed to push yours down into the tank...

Gary is correct. There is a sort of ball in the neck. Don't worry about it you have not hurt a thing. Now you are able to get fuel out when you want too. Did that to my 98 years ago and is still going.

Your right. A ball valve is required on all vehicles now, since the feds again want to control your car/truck. It is supposed to stop fule from running out if you turn over, like in an Explorer.



Probubly won't hurt athing, unless you roll it.

Well, since I don't plan on rolling it, I think I'll leave well enough alone.
