All - I'd like to install the Sirius adapter that basically tees the FM antenna input and allows a direct connection between the Sirius receiver and the FM antenna:

I saw some earlier posts referring to a place under the right kick panel where I can tap into the FM antenna via a connector.

Is this right, or, do I need to pull out the factory radio to make this connection?

Thanks for the help,

Mark

Pull the radio. It takes a #2 phillips screwdriver and less than 10 minutes.

The only problem is that the unit you linked to does not have the right connectors. You will need a couple of antenna adapters to make it work.

Before I put the adapter in, I hooked up the Sirius and it was very bad, with alot of static. I tried every FM channel and it was no better. I decided I wasnt going to install it and geet rid of my XM for that quality. I read on the Sirius forums (link above) about the problems with the newer Siruius recievers due to FCC regs. The Adapter has solved 99percent of the static problems and I havent really had time to find a better channel, if one exists. The adapters can be had for 15-20 dollars, but since a bunch of peps got new satillite revievers from Santa, they are i n short supply, cause it basically the only way the new Sirius recievers will work, correctly.

The Sirius Forum above has all the answers and information you could need.

I put one of those in my truck. it was night and day difference. it should be a direct fit unless the third gens went with a different antenna plug. the fmda25 is the cure. I got mine on ebay when I couldnt find one local. it was like $21. 00 shipped. you will not be disappointed. I think sirius turned the fm output down with newer radios. when I first got mine last christmas you could pick up the fm signal 3-4 car lengths away. when I broke mine and replaced it a month ago the radio would barely recieve the signal. I took it back two times thinking I got a defective radio. I have one of the original sportster replays. I put a sportster 4 in a friends truck and she needs one of these adapters also.

Crutchfield had the adapter, it was $19. 99. Unfortunately they're back ordered until 1/22. The stock radio also requires two adapters (which Crutchfield also carries) for $12. 99 each. They will also include specific instructions on how to remove the stock radio (something I haven't done yet).

It will be a few weeks until I get to try it, but, I'm hoping it makes as big of a difference as everyone says it will.

As usual, you've all been very helpful.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark... take a look at www.tss-radio.com . . no need to wait for crutchfield. They have it all there and ship the same day. You can also find the modulators minus the adapters on ebay. Just a thought.

oops. . no modulators at tss. . out of stock. . sorry. But they do have the adapters.

any car stereo store should have the adapters. when I bought mine on ebay the place had over 100 in stock.

on edit: wow sirius is exploding for sure. there are only like three listings when I just check ebay.

I did exactly this. It is day and night difference. While I was at it, I went ahead and put the antenna on the roof at the cab light just above the rear window. That too made a huge difference on dropouts. Before, I had the antenna on the dash. I was surprised at how restricted that position was. Performance depends on your reception area, so your results may vary.

My Sirius radio has gone from just OK to fantastic. Now if I could just get the DJs to shut up and just play music like on the digital cable TV music channels...

Ditto for me. It made a huge difference in reception. I also ran the wire in through the brake light, under the liner and behind the molding. Looks nice and neat now.

for those of you runnning the ant. through the 3rd brake light make sure you use som silicone on it, my leaked like a water fall when it would rain, took it to dealer and blamed it on a bad seal, well it was, the wire acted just like wick and pulled the water right in just my 2 cents

Agreed. I noticed the wire prevented the gasket from fully contacting the cab so I made sure I placed a dab of black silicone around where the antenna wire contacts the gasket. No leaks so far.

I ran mine through there also. I put the wire through the bottom. that way water cant rise upward. but silicone to protect is best.

Thanks! I just ordered one for my company work truck where I listen to my radio all day. It's a Ford, but it looks like this should work just fine.

I wish Sirius would get smart and ship these with their radios instead of that silly rube goldburg inside antenna contraption that doesn't work right. Why have good music and talk and have all kinds of static.

It's unbelievable how much good knowledge and information is right at my fingertips here on the TDR!!:)
