I have the 430 N radio with sat. radio, the weather channnel keeps over taking the presets randomly. WTF it is gonna make me crazy. Any thoughts or fixes?

My sat radio has done the following since I purchased the truck:

1) first 3 months worked fine

2) then sat radio started re-setting presets back to the weather channel (default). this happened for the next 2 months or so. It might reset one channel, it might reset 4 channels. Totally random.

3) then the sat radio started re-loading (I think that was the term on the screen) the sat channels every time I started the truck. This would take anywhere from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. This went on for several months. But during this time it no longer re-set channels back to the weather channel.

4) Then a month ago or so the sat radio went back to Step 2 above- re-setting channels back to default but no longer was it re-loading channels.

I called Chrysler and they ok'd the dealer replacing the radio. Just waiting on a new one to be shipped.

Seems to me to be a problem with Sirius/XM not the radio itself. Sounds like S/XM is broadcasting a signal from the satellite to do this. I don't think the radio would do this by itself. Just my $. 02.

the 430N is the model of radio. I have a sirius radio for my work truck and never had any trouble with it resetting or re loading, except when my subscription ran out. then it was on the weather channel until I renewed.

Our 09 Laramie came with the Sat/Nav radio. So far, knock on wood, it has worked well. Well, the Nav part is a little crazy. But, what GPS isn't? :)

My new radio has arrived and I will let you know if it changes the preset issue once I schedule an appointment to have it installed.

I had read somewhere on the that there was a reflash that took care of this problem. Once a month mine resets only two channels. Fox News Channel and Fox Talk Radio both reset once a month to the weather channel. Strange. All the others stay the same. It does it after one of those aggrevating Updating Channel deals which is also corrected by the reflash.

For the life of me, I can't remember if I saw it in the TDR or someplace else about the reflash and I apologize. If it is a reflash correction, changing out the radio won't help. I don't know how it could be a reflash.

I did a web search and found a little information about this.

It is happening on more than just our trucks. It is happening with brand new stand alone systems.

I never thought much about it but when I drive my wife's Murano, I get the "Updating Channels" several times about the same time of day, usually between 10-11 AM.

One of the things I just read is that this issue of losing presets and constant channel updates can have something to do with the repeater system Sirius uses. XM does "silent" updates that are non intrusive and rarely lose presets. Sirius on the other hand uses an intrusive update.

I emailed Sirius and asked for an explanation. I doubt they will blame themselves but it seems that the problem may be more prevalent in some parts of the country than it is in others. According to what I read, there are only two satellites servicing the US with Sirius. That's probably why the repeaters are used. If they lose sync, I can see where they may give problems to their subscribers and they mask this with the "Updating Channels" message. It is still strange that I lose the same two presets.

my radio used to randomly change channels.

i found the rearview mirror was loose.

haven't had a problem since it was tightned.

my truck has the blue tooth stuff in the mirror, so it may be something to do with the combined systems. .

hope the new radio solves the problem.

I contacted Sirius about the upadating channels continuously happening and here's what I got:

With all that said, I did it and it worked but I was having other problems so my radio was replaced. I noticed that the software version of the new radio is five higher than the one that was replaced. Supposedly, the reflash would not have solved the problem.

The new radio is working great. I've had one 'updating channels' in five days.
