I am having a problem the dealer can't find.

Periodically, when I turn on my truck, the Sirius is all static. It continues this way until it is shut off and turned back on after a short wait. The dealer has replaced the amp, radio, and sirius receiver as well as gone through the wiring. They found a couples wires switch and that greatly improved sound, but it did not fix the Sirius problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Mine just did it for the first time today. My 03 that I put in the RB1 and Sirius in has never had this problem. This is going to drive me nuts!

Relax! It happens doesn't hurt nothing and all you gotta do is turn off the truck and back on til it goes away. It would bother me more if it happened while driving down the road.

It's got nothing to do with the service. I've had Sirius for nearly a year in 2 vehicles and I don't have this problem. It is an equipment issue.

On edit: niether of the vehicles have factory issue equipment for Sirius. One has plug-and-play and the other is wired through an aftermarket headunit with a standalone Sirius receiver.

You might be content paying $40K for a truck with a radio that works intermittantly, but I don't put up with this kind of poor quality. I will make them swap out everything until they figure out the problem.

I have installed the sirius in both my 2001 tj and 2004. 5 3500. I did the installs myself after buying the rb1 head units on E-Bay and the sirius recivers on E-Bay and the other reciver (the one on my dodge) from a person on the TDR.

The 2001 tj was not prewired for the rb-1 nav dodge head unit so I wired it in and it has worked fine except for that static that you are talking about. At first I thought it was a loose ground but it only happened intermintently so I figured it was interference or sun spotting ,I have not had the problem for around a year now. But to be sure check the grounds to your reciver and amp. The truck install was straight forward and I have never had a problem with any interference or static.

Sounds like the signal that is coming from the radio to "wake up" the Sirius receiver is, for some reason, not being applied. Someone with more knowledge of this system... and perhaps a wiring or pin-out diagram may be able to shead more light on this idea?

I have the same problem in my 05 with the dealer installed sat, I have noticed one thing it will never do it if you don't start the truck with the radio on. I make a point of shutting off my radio before the truck every time and NO PROBLEM. I think there must be a switching device for the antenna that gest out of synch when you start the truck sometimes. I have not bothered to go to my local dealer since I know they are not smart enough to find the problem--if anyone figures this out pleas post for all of us--thanks Russ

Weird stuff. . I have had a

P -n- P since 2003 and never get static, the wife now has one and never gets static.

Hey Doc,

:-laf X-Mas. . huh? When you do get it hooked up you will kick yourself for waiting. The difference between FM and Satellite is unbelievable.

#1 would be no commercials and #2 the clarity.

I use my PnP all day long at work and then pop it in the truck. I also have a cradle for it at home, the boat and TT.

Doc, I just installed my antenna on the dash, and it works fine. There's even a little depression in the metal under-dash on the right side, which perfectly accommodates the connectors under the antenna where they protrude through the plastic dah cover. There are pictures of how this works in my Readers' Rigs section.

Do you have any other aftermarket stuff on the truck? Could be alarm, or any other add on causing the trouble.

My 2004 truck has the AM & FM Stereo w/CD & GPS Navigation but no sirius radio so I went to Best Buy and got sirius SP-TK1 sportster but can't get It to work so I have a app at the store today at 11 AM plus I got the 4 year warranty. Will let you know how this works. I want to be able to transfer this fron my truck to my motor home and my cobalt also. Any of you ever done this?Maybe a can of worms?

Anyone found any solution to this random problem? My MOPAR Sat equipment does this intermittently... though it appears to be less and less common.

Mine does it too, annoying as hell. It's gotta be a dodge problem. I put a Sirius Sportster 2 in my wife's Honda Pilot, never ever does it.

Since I can't make it repeat consistently I won't bother with the dealer as they will just blow you off and think your nuts when they can't duplicate it.
