Hey Guy

I have the factory sirius radio and it looses the reception a lot, do others have this problem? I live in portland oregon.

Thanks

Are you getting "NO SIGNAL" or a proper display with "snow" or static? If it's the latter, then that's a problem with the receiver and there is TSB on it to replace the receiver box. Had it done on my 05. I don't think it affects the newer ones though, but not sure.

I get the NO SIGNAL alot in my new truck with the factory radio. My 05 had a Sirius add on radio and it seemed like it never lost signal. Makes me wonder how good of an antena are they using on the dodges. I had the antena on my 05 in the same location as the one on the new truck. I took the one out of the 05 and put in a tractor and it still works great.

Depending on the proximity to trees and tall buildings I get the No Signal from time to time. I have had the same result in both 05 and 06 trucks, my Durango, Commander and now with my Magnum. All were factory installed units. My daughter has the Mopar aftermarket kit in her Stratus and it gets great reception. I have the antenna mounted at the base of the windshield on the dash, so go figure.

I think it's a common problem. I get "No signal" a lot, even on wide-open conditions, such as driving through the desert or on open highway. Since there is no buffer, I even lose signal for 8 seconds for driving half a second under an overpass. I also have an OE XM receiver in another vehicle, and it rarely drops out.

Had xm in last truck that was always droping out.

Had sirius in wifes car same droping out.

Now my 06 came with free sirius and its just as bad as the others.

Cant beat FM for reception around town.

I,m done with sat radio when the free year is up.

Mine rarely drops out, but does occasionally for 10 minutes or so. The satellites used for Sirius are not geosynchronous, so their geometry relative to your postion is always changing. There are times when all of the sats (3 for Sirius) are too low on the horizon for a reliable signal.

My unit is an add on so my experience may not count...

Originally I had the antenna located on the dash, near the windshield, which seemed like a good location, with a clear shot at the sky. I would get frequent dropouts and poor signal.

I relocated the antenna to the roof of the truck, above the third brake light. It made all the difference in the world. If I get a drop out now, it is due to a very reasonable condition (tunnel, etc. ).

I would guess that the factory installed radio does not have the antenna in the best location.

My Sirius seems to work well, except in the mountain roads with over hangs. My
truck is an '06 with factory unit. The problem is the high powered commercial
FM station, 40 miles away in Knoxville, TN, comes in a whole lot weaker than it
did on the radio in my 2001 2500. Untill now I blamed the noise on the Power Co.
here in East TN not cleaning the insulators on the high lines (like they knew enough to do at least in NV and Calif! My 06 was built in 4/06,sold in2/07?

Sirius

My $50 Radio Shack add on Sirius works perfectly all over the west. Never drops out. It also works all the way to Alaska but at the turn to Anchorage in Tok it quits and does not work again until I get back to Tok.

Sirius temp. suspended my service until I head back south again. Hopefully the sat coverage will improve one day.

Mine works fine in California, only drops out when there are obstructions to the south and under bridges. However, I need to extend the antenna to accomodate my camper. Does anyone know where the Sirius box is on an '06 3500 dually with mega cab. It's not above the glove box or behind the right kick panel. I've heard it's behind the rear passenger seat.
