Sirius apparently has dropped Fox News Channel and promotes their signing of Howard Stern. I want to switch to XM. I have the Dodge RB2 radio and satellite receiver in my 2005 Dodge. Is it possible to integrate a new XM receiver with my current radio/antenae and have the radio controls operate the chanel selection for the satellite radio or am I SOL?

I believe you can get a Terk XMDirect unit that will work with your radio.

My RBQ operates it just fine. The only drawback is that the XMDirect only has 10 channel memory. The "6" button memorizes as "1. "

Chris

listening to 22 1st wave as I type.

You're right!!! That sucks! I just downloaded the new guide and it's gone. That's gonna make me reconsider my membership too!

... I'm on hold with SIRIUS right now. Cancelling as I type.

My wife has Sirius and all she listened to was FNC. She's ticked. She called Sirius and they told her that Fox cancelled on them. I still get FNC on my XM. :-laf

I heard this was coming and so have been watching for it to happen. Fox News was there on Sat and gone on Tuesday. I called Sirius and asked to cancel all my subscriptions. They told me that it wasn't a done deal, that negotiations were still going on and would I please be patient. I told them I'd give them a month tops. I hate to have to incur the expense of converting all our vehicles over to XM and I hate giving up NFL and NBA but I will not continue with Sirius if they don't get Fox back up by the end of January.

Being skeptical, I just sent an email to Fox to see if they are also taking the position that negotiations are on-going. If they come back and tell me no that it is over then I'm going to really have words with Sirius.

I'd like to redirect this thread backto gilliland's original question which, I think, was:

Is it possible to convert from the Sirius receiver in a Gen III Dodge to XM and use the OEM in-dash radio to control it? How about the Sirius antenna? Can it be used with an XM receiver?

JCleary, can you provide a little more discussion on the subject? What is the Terk XM Direct you mentioned?

Check www.myradiostore.com

Then look up XM direct for Chrysler. (Not the Terk) Plugs into your existing stereo. No exposed wires or extra junk on your dash. Clear digital sound, not fm modulation. You'll think it came from the factory. Excellent ;)

To anwser your question, Yes and Yes. :D

As far as I know, the XM and Sirius antennas are not interchangable on the hideaway units, nor the dash mount units. I had the Sirius package in my Truck when I bought it. I already had XM and had no intention of changing. I ripped it out when I installed my new head unit.

Just as a heads up, if you are planning on removing the Sirius system from your truck, the antenna is held on through a hole in the roof by a stud and nut. I removed my antenna, ran both my XM and GPS Nav antennas through the hole, which was protected by a rubber grommit, then siliconed closed. It sure was a PITA pulling the cable from the Sirius unit back to the Radio.

My suggestion is to buy the Skyfi 2, the car mount cradle, and the inline FM modulator (plugs in between the antenna and radio, run a power and ground, plug the other two wires into the cradle). You can mount a second cradle in another car and shift the two units between the vehicles and only pay for one subscription. I do this between my Truck, my Jeep, and my boombox in the garage. You can also listen to XM on the computer through the internet.

Sirius SUCKS!! Stern BLOWS!!

XM keeps signing up new stations and shows constantly. My favorites are XM202, The Virus/Opie and Anthony & Ron and Fez, and XM150 XM Comedy.

You can listen online with Sirius as well.

As far as the rest I won't comment aside from saying those others you mention should be very grateful Stern has done what he has in the past or they would not be working in radio. Anthony would still be a tin knocker or whatever he was in western MA. O&A are funny, and I do listen, but to flat out say Stern Blows,is just spiteful. It seems to me that O&A are worried about what Stern is going to do in the new medium. The problem with those two are they have really burned all their bridges, and are only really working becasue of Satellite radio.

I think the two systems are going to merge at some point, and then ou will see eveyone kissing each others butts. I saw O&A on WAAF in Worcester MA attack a certain DJ on a competing station when the were head to head, and then they were working for the same station months later, and they were all buddy-buddy. It seemed pretty lame to me. You know what else is lame?when satellite radio subscribers berate each others systmes. I have both(XM through my Directv),and I like them both. Why can't we all get along?I think the really bad radio out now it the free stuff we are all so used to. I can't listen to that anymore.

Chris

Sirius satellite subscriber and loving it.

Thank god I've never had Siruis. I listen to FNC all the time, I would be ******!

Fox has also launched the Fox News Radio Broadcast on XM 168. You can now get the radio Factor. :D

My '05 came with the factory Sirius system. Like Brian, I already had a XM subscription. I took the "free" year of Sirius from Dodge and I installed an Delphi Skyfi 2 for XM. Two sat radios - it will be fun for the next half year. I like XM better, but I am biased because I have been a XM subscriber for a couple of years.

If you are a NASCAR fan, don't forget that NASCAR is moving from XM to Sirius in 2007 or 2008 - I have forgotten which year. That is a "done" deal. It will be interesting to see how these 2 media machines battle each other for content in the future.

I am interested in doing the swap on my 06 as well. Sirius frequently cuts out on my commute to work (I don't know by what - electrical interference? - there is nothing around!). I often drive this commute in OE equipped XM cars, and they never cut out.

Stern blows, and Sirius' mere support of him is enough to cancel the subscription. XM has a better channel selection, anyway.

I knew you diesel heads would sympathize with me. I had emailed Sirius when I heard they were negotiating with FNC and they said, "don't worry". When I tuned it and it was gone I was ******. I sent them an email to clarify and suggested the person who had answered my inquirey either was a liar or moron. Gee, they haven't even bothered to reply to me yet. I did find an option that looks good:

Hi Mike:

You can use the Terk XMDCPK, seen here: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/terkxmdcpk.html.

I will probably wait until the end of the January, but if Fox is gone from Sirius, I will probably cancel my subscription, purchase the unit(about $192) and subscribe to xm. This will be a pain, but better than wasteing money on a company that dumps FNC for that moron Stern. I hope they lose a lot of subscribers over this. Serves them right.
