Thanks to several of you who provided answers and links to a solution. I am convinced that XM better meets my needs and I don't want the Sirius system that will be installed in the '06 I've ordered.

Each to his own but I'd rather listen to a toilet flushing than listen to Stern. Sirius reportedly has only a fraction of the subscribers that XM does and with the direction each company is going I would guess that XM will continue to outpace Sirius.

I've enjoyed Sirius and up until now preferred their programming over XM. All that just changed. I replaced the POS factory radio with a Kenwood about a year ago. One advantage of the XM Direct unit is that they offer adaptors not only for Chrysler radios but Sony, Kenwood, and a variety of others as well. Glad to here that the performance is good because it looks like that is about my only option short of buying a whole new head end unit.

Both kits include new antenna. Please excuse my ignorance, but is there any reason, the already installed antenae wouldn't work?

I don't KNOW the answer to your question but since no one else has answered I'll offer an educated guess. I think XM and Sirius probably operate on their own slightly different frequency and the antennas are probably tuned for a specific frequency and not interchangeable. However, I hope (wish) I'm wrong. It would be a much nicer installation if I could use the OEM Sirius antenna to receive XM instead of placing the XM magnetic antenna on the cab roof with the antenna wire out in the windstream.

I just upgraded my XM Roady to a XM Roady II because it has some new features and a build in modulator. They had a $14 special at Staples. It didn't cost me anything to activate the new radio. If you market it right, i. e. switching from Sirius to XM they may be willing to forego activation fees - if applicable. They did say I could keep both receivers active for $7 a month more, but I didn't need that.

Bottomline, for $14 bucks I figured I couldn't go wrong ;)

I have listened to XM from home to Anchorage, Alaska ( home is Missouri), had just a few places that it faded out up around Whitehorse, YT other than that it was great. Of course there is not a whole lot else to listen to up there.

I don't know if Sirius would give that kind of service on a trip like that????

I know its not hard wired like some of you guys seem to like but I have one of the xm2go's from delphi. As far as in concerned its the cats rear end. I comes with a car kit and home kit and you can take it and walk around with it even works on trains. Just my 2 cents.

I liked the idea of an integrated unit so the radio controls would take care of everything, but the other option of a portable, that could be mounted in different vehicles including a motorcycle sounds like an interesting option too.

In an earlier posting I mentioned that I had sent an email to FNC to confirm whether or not negotiations were in fact still on-going. Following is the nice response I just got back from FNC:

Negotiations are ongoing, that is true. However, it is Sirius' decision whether or not to sign the contract, not ours.

Here’s the story: we have been taken off of Sirius because management there allowed the contract to expire without renewing it, despite the fact that we contacted them more than six months ago. We contacted XM at the same time and had a new contract after just a few short meetings. There's some nonsense on the Internet that we gave XM a better deal than we're asking from Sirius. That IS just nonsense. We've never asked Sirius for a penny more than we've gotten from XM.

We WANT to be back on Sirius. But we can't force them to sign the contract (much as we'd like to!) If I were you, I'd wait a week or two as hopefully this situation will change.

Also, you really helped us out by calling Sirius and voicing your opinion. Thanks so much for your support. We really appreciate it and are sorry you're disappointed. We are too.

So - like I said earlier, I'll give them until the end of the month. If FNC isn't back on Sirius it's going to be switch to XM time for this guy. If you haven't already called Sirius to complain please do so soon.

If one were to select a sat. radio provider based on the following criteria, which should he/she choose: Dodge OEM FM/AM stereo cd ( basic ); ease of installation; compatibility with existing equipment and fewest additional parts. The stock ST level equipment is good enough for my unrefined ear, for now, and maybe the above criteria are too restrictive. . but your opinions/experiences will determine my choice.
