Site slowdown (stop) @ ~1:00pm eastern 08/23/2004

The site crawled to a stop around 1:00pm eastern time this afternoon and some of you may have gotten a database error. I was watching what was going on as it happened and I think I have found the problem. The archive program seems to have a bug in it which can load up mysql. Several search bots (for the search engines) were crawling through the archive at the same time and loaded mysql up until it shut it down. I have disabled the archive for now until the problem can be solved. Sorry for any inconvenience.
