I found out that Banks is offering an update of the six gun and it is available now. Supposed to be quite a bit better. All levels are increased some with 5 and 6 the most increased. The gentleman that I talked with said that it does add some black smoke, especially in 5 and 6.

Last six gun dyno Ive heard of was around 48 hp on a CA SO lvl 6. You guys wanna make any bets if it can beat the Edge EZ? (I bet it doesnt).

I just sent mine in yesterday. I have the dyno charts from before and I will try and get it back on the dyno after I get my Six Gun back with the new program. I traded my EZ for my Six Gun and I like the Six Gun better now, sounds like it will be quite a bit better now with the new program. We'll see. I will post new numbers as soon as I can.

I am pretty sure that it is free. I called, they gave me a RMA # and told me to send it in, nothing said about cost. They said its about a two day turn around.

Since the Banks box uses pressure and timing, they obviously either added additional rail pressure and even more timing or both.

Anyone know what kind of pressure we are looking at now? I spoke with Banks tech support and they didn't know what the upper ceiling was.

huh. they better know. their "white" paper says very clearly that the six guns stays below 24,500 psi and the speed loader bumps it up to 27,000.

but just because it feels stronger and smokes more doesn't mean they are going over the above numbers. they could have just tuned up the fueling curve so that it brings more smiles -- fatten up the lower portion of the torque curve.

From the way the that the tech talked that I talked to he said it was mostly down low, right off the line where the increse in power was.

yeah thats what I remember seeing as well (27,000) Isnt 28,000 the limit? probably just increaced the low end.

29,400 I think is the upper limit. But at that limit, the safety pop-off goes and you start leaking diesel. then the valve corrodes and your 29,400 drops to something less. You're not disabled, but the valve typically is easier to blow once it has blow for the first time

Hi guys,

I'm new to TDR and have only had my '03 for about a year. I just installed the six-gun bundle on my truck last weekend. I have nothing else to compare it with but I can say that I'm very impressed with the power gain. My shipment was late getting to me because they told me that I was getting the latest update. On level 6 at wide open throttle I get absolutely NO noticeable smoke.

Yep, definitely underfueled. Gunna have to get some injectors to go with that so people know they're following a diesel! :D

What we have been told by Banks is the new programming makes the bottom end stronger which is where it was a little weak before. Have not had a chance to test the new programming yet, but hopefully the bottom will be stronger.

No, we're just joking. Banks' products are emmissions legal so they shouldn't smoke. They just don't utilize the full potential of the machine.

The new Six-Gun calibration has been developed in response to requests for more aggressive acceleration characteristics. The majority of the changes were made to the rate at which fuel is introduced in relationship to boost. Maximum fuel pressures were not changed from the previous calibration. Any additional smoke is the result of added fuel at lower boost levels, a fairly typical side effect. Timing was also slightly changed from the previous calibration.

On the Six-Gun’s highest setting (Level 6 with a Speed-Loader) your engine will run the highest pressure that it can make with your pressure relief valve. This is usually around 28,000 PSI. All other levels will operate at lower peak fuel pressure values. Keep in mind that this only applies to the highest peak value which occurs in the higher RPM register during WOT. Pressure is always below this under all other operating conditions. Pressure also varies considerably for the various horsepower ratings and from vehicle to vehicle.

The safe maximums are still a point that may be argued. There is so much variation in the pop-off points of the pressure relief valves that it is difficult to say with consistency what is “safe” from one vehicle to the next. The ultimate test is whether or not damage is being done to the fuel system at high pressures. I am not saying that this is safe, but we have observed pressures in excess of 32,000 PSI on a 325/600 during development testing with no apparent detrimental effect.

Arielender,

When the Six-Gun detects trans slippage and removes fuel as a result, it is immediate and obvious. As soon as 3% slippage is detected, the Six-Gun immediately removes all added fuel and will not allow it to be reintroduced until it has detected 5 successful torque converter lock-up cycles. The Six-Gun will also have a code set if it detects slip. In short, you will KNOW it if the Six-Gun detects trans slip.

Thanks for the info Peter. Good to see product developers on the boards laying out the straight information. I appreciate it. :)

Will the new boxes being shipped from Banks already have this calibration or will the box still have to sent back for reprograming?
