Dodge Six-Guns that were programmed after 6/20/04 were programmed with the newer “race” calibration. Since we have a large dealer network, it would be difficult to say with certainty that if you bought it after that date that it would definitely be programmed with the latest version. It is easy enough to tell by looking at the box though. On the back of the Six-Gun is a small label that says Gale Banks Engineering and has two numbers on it. If the first number is 62976-05E, then you have the latest calibration. If it is anything other than that (most likely ending in a “C”) then you do not have the latest calibration.

If you have the earlier version and would like to have it updated, all you have to do is send it in to Banks and we will reflash it free of charge. You just need to pay the shipping one way, and we will pay the return shipping. To make arrangements, call Banks Customer Service at (888) 839-5600 or Banks Technical Support at (888) 839-2700.

Six-Gun

Great information PeterT,

It should also be noted that for those looking to purchase a Six-Gun the 2003-2004 uses part#62977 and the new 2004. 5, 600 uses part#62980 and they both use the same Speed loader. You want to make sure you get the right Six-Gun for your truck.

Fuel mileage increase?

The new Six-Gun calibration has been developed in response to requests for more aggressive acceleration characteristics. The majority of the changes were made to the rate at which fuel is introduced in relationship to boost. Maximum fuel pressures were not changed from the previous calibration. Any additional smoke is the result of added fuel at lower boost levels, a fairly typical side effect. Timing was also slightly changed from the previous calibration.

Banks Power

Hi Peter:

Appreciate all the info. What effect does the new program with the timing change have on increasing the fuel mileage?

I have an 04. 5 4x4 quad cab with 48re and get 16. 8mpg in combined driving. If I drive the same way with your boxes added, what kind of increase can reasonably be expected?

John

peter,

I have talked to your sales guys a couple times and had liture sent to me. I like the numbers it showed on your dyno chart, however that was for a SO. Do you guys have any dyno charts for the 555 HO?

Wouldn't it be great if the tech guys that you get on the phone at Banks had this data so we would not get so frustrated. They really can't answer any of these type's of questions and they say it is because that they are not engineers. Peter if you would educate the techs and give them some info sheets that would really help your bottomline. By the way I like my Sixgun and speed loader and am glad that I did chose Banks.

Jpalese,

I do not have data on fuel economy improvements for the Six-Gun, but I have received reports back from customers that they are seeing anywhere from 5 to 10% improvement. The new calibration is more aggressive with fuel delivery during initial accelerator pedal application in the higher levels, so if you run levels 5 and 6 a lot and are aggressive with the pedal, there is the possibility of hurting your fuel economy.

Slinse,

I have posted about all the info that I have on a 305 here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=107564 and here http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47285&perpage=15&pagenumber=3. Check those out and if you still have questions you can e-mail me at -- email address removed --.

Badams1,

I agree, it would be great if our Sales staff was equipped with the info sooner. I guess one of the problems is that we are pretty meticulous about ensuring that our data is accurate, and it usually gets released to the Sales staff about the same time that I can post it in a place like this, and then of course it takes even longer to reach printed material. At least that is how it usually seems to work. But it is my job to educate the Sales staff as the information becomes available.

Peter;

Please excuse my candor. Is the Six Gun dialed in to the point that one can be installed on a 2004. 5 T600 without any annoying side effects like throwing codes? I know it's your job to tell us all that it's a perfect product but I would gladly wait a while if it needs more fine tuning. Does the annoying pinging sound go away after the install of a Six Gun?

Thanks

Gino

I just got my six gun installed after recalabration and I love it. That is what I was looking for the first time. There is a huge difference in the bottom end power. The tech warned but about black smoke but I have seen none. I would definately recommend sending them in and getting them reprogrammed. The two weeks or so without sucks but once you get it back it is worth it.

Gino,

One of the reasons that our products sometimes take longer to get to market is due to the little details that need to be worked out. We spend a lot of time in development to ensure that check engine lights and other annoyances are resolved before the product is shipped. We have not had any problems with check engine lights with our 325/600 Six-Gun that I am aware of.

I cannot really comment on the pinging sound because we have not really experienced that with the test trucks that we have had in here. As a result, I can’t say how our product may or may not affect the issue.

Just installed my six gun this weekend, love the power but shudders at top end and created three codes with a constant check engine light. I think the shudder is my trany, but not sure. Any help?

Are you talking about codes on the truck or codes on the six gun itself?

When I installed my six gun I got 3 codes on the truck and the check engine light lit up but I found that I did not have a good connection with the wire taps (I was getting no power to the six gun) but after I corrected that the check engine light went off but I still have the codes on my truck.

New Six-Gun programming

MFetzer said:
I found out that Banks is offering an update of the six gun and it is available now. Supposed to be quite a bit better. All levels are increased some with 5 and 6 the most increased. The gentleman that I talked with said that it does add some black smoke, especially in 5 and 6.
We have had both the old programming and the latest programming to try in the 04 here in the shop. The new programming is a great improvement over the old, as it mainly brings the low end into play much stronger than before and still has the top end. Great improvement and Banks will reprogram for free, the customer pays the freight to Banks and Banks pays the freight to return it after programming. :D

Flores,

There is some possibility of slipping the trans if you put the vehicle under heavy load (i. e. towing). It is not likely when accelerating without load. If the Six-Gun detects 3% slippage in the transmission, it will immediately remove all added fueling and it will not reintroduce the fuel until after 5 successful torque converter locking cycles. When the fuel is removed, it is obvious, and there will be no doubt that is what occured.

Areilender, I had three codes on my truck. Cleared code and started the whole engine learning , trans. learning process again. I still get that shudder and engine stumble during heavy pedal (levels 3-6 ) and the truck sets a crank sensor code, no code on six gun tuner. Banks said that tuner should not set a crank sensor code since the tuner cuts fuel during transmission slip. Also asked about ( no red led on tuner) during power-up. This is a good one here. Tech said that I probably had a 305 instead of a 235, no matter what the engine decal said. All in all I am very happy with the performance of the six gun, but do have a few issues to work out. So far everyone at Banks has been very helpful.

Banks update.

I just wanted to update my last post. My wife had the truck pulling horses the last post and I thought I had everything thought out. When the wife came home, the power level was at 1 and it still caused the truck to shudder. I have sent the tuner to Banks and will get it back this week. The tuner did give me a trans. slip code but it always sets a po336 cde on the truck. Still ove the extra power and am sure that Banks will get it straightened up.
