I have a 2001 HO with the six speed of course. It is a little stiff shifting, but I have never had a grind when shifting up or down. One thing I have noticed, if I shift without the disengaging the clutch, it is very smooth. This works best if you go past 2200 rpm before upshifting, and you better be there for the next gear when the engine speed matches up otherwise you'll definitely grind it. I still use the clutch, but if I wait for it to drop into gear like when I was not using the clutch, the shifting is much smoother. Also, I have noticed that the shifting action is smoothing out as the miles go up (7500 and counting). By the way, I have the mystical rotating stick problem too; however, mine has only made it about half way around since I picked up the truck. I've tried turning it back, but it won't budge. I plan on checking into it soon. Forget the dealership. They will probably tell you this is normal.
