well i have been trying to trouble shoot my transmission problem and i found out why the truck is not driving right. I thought that the truck was having issues of 1st gear hanging up, but it turns out the transmission goes from 1st to 3rd - even if i manually put the lever in 2nd after the truck is in third there is nothing.

After talking with the transmission shop that installed my Goerends goodies i am hoping it is just an electrical problem -gov. pressure solonoid - and not a clutch pack or something else that came apart. I am getting them to drop the pan on Monday.

has anyone else had this problem before?

i spoke to Dave at Goerend's. He thought it might be some linkage that came loose or apart. He even volunteered to call the transmission shop where i am getting the work done to give them his insight on the problem.

talk about good Tech support.

It is very possible the 2nd gear band strut broke.

These trannies apply the rear clutch for first (and all forward gears), then just adds the front band for 2nd.

Then it drops the front band and applies the front clutch for 3rd. Thus the skip of 2nd gear could be the front band NOT appying, due to broken strut/broken servo/broken band.

it keeps getting better

:eek:

well i went out on Friday to take the truck to the trans. shop. and the batteries were drained. Someone left the key on in the ignition:rolleyes:

so after pulling the batteries and charging them for a while i got it started and the engine light was on. I did the key turn deal and got code p1693.

does it always throw a code when the batteries are drained? or could it have been a code for the transmissioin? I think p1693 is a code that needs a scanner to retrieve other codes?

just when i thought i got all the weak links fixed ( a FASS, new tq converter and valve body, and some power upgrades ) i am re-fixing it :{

i have another thread on TDR about the FASS brushes sticking - products and accessories / no engine and transmission

it was part of the 2nd gear band that broke. It was a clean break - i did not need a rebuildOo. It was the fork looking piece that the adjusting screw goes into. They did put an aftermarket strut on it that was beefier than the OE. + new filter, fluid, and i had a speed sensor put on too. Shifts like a dream.

the weather is getting nice too. I guess its time to break the Mach 4's and PS62 out soon - i've been waiting for warm weather.
