Has anyone attempted to repaint the Skyjacker springs?

I haven't ordered any yet and can't for a lil bit... . but trying to get all my "ducks" in order for when I get the new tires/shocks/springs.

I don't want the "Red" springs. Just wondering if anyone has repainted or modified them?

Same here, I took some pics of it when I painted them, primer then flat black. I didn't want a bright red spring on a green truck. Also, Hawaii has a p. i. t. a. recon vehicle law, so I did not want my springs to be screaming "After Market!!!" to the vehicle inspectors.

I Sprayed the Red springs with cheap black Wally World piant. It's going on 6 years now and no chips or flaking.

Kalaehina,

Could you tell us more about the recon vehicle law in HI?

HEMI, well I started to read the official vehicle law book at work, (before I got disgusted and put it down) and a little I've come to know hearing from others-Here in Hawaii if you alter a vehicle-suspension, tires, rims, exhaust, lighting you are supposed to take your vehicle down to a reconditioned vehicle inspection station, now there is only one on this island. Every year you are required to get a vehicle safety check, if you don't have a recon sticker, you can't get a safety check. Now, the part that is annoying is that I went in for my safety check, to the same station that I went to last year, to the same person, and this year she goes " oh I can't pass you because your tires are sticking out of the wheel wells", so I said "really, are you sure?", she says " yeah I can see from here", about 50 feet away from my truck. So I say " well are you going to use the pole to check?" (they check your tire to well clearance by putting a pole against your tires side wall and it shows if you treads are sticking out of the wells, side wall can stick out, not treads), and she insists that they are sticking out, by now I'm:mad: , so I said "then why did you pass me last year!?" and she goes on about it still sticking out. Then she goes " if you get fender flares it would be ok" so I said "ok", then she goes, "but if you put on rubber fender flares, you have to go get a recon sticker and bring the paper work back for me to pass you on a safety check". So, the next day I go through someone else and they pass me!. The whole point is everyone is interpreting the law different, some are strict, some are laxed, some are anal some are cool and use common sense, no consistency. Every thing has to pass recon to be "legal" for safety check. I'd love to lift my truck 4. 5 inches, throw on some 35s, rip out my muffler, but I just don't want to deal with the Bee Ess! Ok thanks guys for lettin me vent a little, ah I needed that.

I painted mine with Rustoleum "shot-peen" grey before installing them - no chips/peeling in about a year. Here's a close-up. I was told that the bright red turns pink gradually - just not one of my colors ;)

Kat,

If you are going for just springs, Call National Spring. They are in Santee, CA. They make the best coils around. It is a little more than the Skyjackers but 10 times better. They make springs for professional motorsports including the Baja 1000. You can find thier add in Four Wheeler. Its in the back, business card size.

As for the red paint, it is a powdercoat and will have to sandblasted to get it all off. Then you can paint them any color. maybe midnight blue?;)

Greg

just a thought - not sure if it would work, but what about coating it with the bed liner in a can stuff. it is rubbery and flexable. . should last real good... who knows. . maybe it would work real well...

Yes they are powder coated(not very well) I had mine on aprox a year before the pink started within 2yrs very pink:mad:  along with all the other skyjacker components out they all came and they need to be baked to get the powder off and sandblasted then re powdered(with good powder) no more pink springsOo. Oo. but the PITA factor is very high if I would've known they used ***** powder in the first place I would've re done them before install.

Jason

Jason, if the red powder they used for all their suspension products was not specifically formulated for U. V. protection (i. e. , exterior use) the red color WILL fade and progressively turn a lighter shade of pink over time, even going as far as a pinkish white color. ( )

The powder coat place I take all my parts to has a really *****in' shade of deep red that WILL NOT FADE! I had a little Cummins "C" emblem stripped and powder coated with their "Red Baron" red powder several years ago and it still looks absolutely awesome! (it's on the cross bar of my Reese Titan V hitch)

I just had them powder coat my new, OE front coil springs (snow plow + springs) with...

what else? Gloss Black powder! :D

BTW Jason, did anyone by chance make fun of your pink suspension components? :D

... now to decide what shocks I'd like to go with this time...
