My buddy just bought a 93 xcab 4x4 with skyjacker's 4 inch "softride" springs. It rides like I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER. it has their hydro shocks and my question is has any used this combo and is it the springs or the shocks that are the culprit or both.

Thanks

I got the 2.5" in front....

Way, way better than stock springs, but also have Rancho 9000's for shocks. I would think that there should be plenty of room between the bump stops and spring, but you might check there. Mine was hitting on every little bump, would just about jar your teeth loose.

First Gen 4x4 Dodge's really weren't known for having a very, ummmmm, plush ride. Every one I have ever had left something to be desired as far as ride quality. I think in the case of an empty (unloaded) CTD equipped 3/4 or 1 ton, the front is way heavier than the rear, which amounts to a bit of uneven movement in the suspension. On the trucks I have owned, throwing 500-600 pounds in the bed would generally make for a better ride.

SkyJackers Hydro shocks are supposed to be pretty high quality, but I prefer the adjustability of the Rancho 9000's. I saw recently there was another brand making a 6 position adjustable shock now, but I don't recall the name. Hope it helps.

Hey Diesel Dan!:)

I have a definite opinion on this subject!

My girl drives the former Frank Simkowski '92 W250 w/ 4" SJ suspension lift (New springs in front and 'add-a-leaf' in the rear) & SJ "Hydro" shocks on all four corners & 36" tires.

My almost identically prepared '92 W250 has the SJ 2 1/2" front springs and OEM rear suspension with the "Hydros" on all four corners & 35" tires.

I feel (& she agrees) that the SJ 4" suspension rides like a Lumber Wagon when compared to the SJ 2 1/2" springs. She comments on nicely my truck rides every time she rides or drives it. My opinion is that it has to do w/ the increased arch of the 4" springs over the 2 1/2" springs. I don't believe you're ever going to get a more positively arched spring to ride as well as a 'flatter' spring w/ similar construction.

When I wanted to run 315/75R/16's (35" tires) on my truck I decided to cut & install Bushwacker "cut out" Fender Flares for clearance while maintaining my plush ride characteristis of the 2 1/2" SJ springs.

Just my direct comparision & definitive opinion.

The ride difference is in the springs and not the shocks...

PS: Does anyone have any room on there webpage for a few . jpegs of my ride?

2 1/2 lift

I bought my Skyjacker 2 1/2" springs from National Tire & Wheel Jan. of this year for $261. 90. The bushing kit $25. 95. It greatly improved the ride and levelled the truck front to back.

Hey KEENO...

KEENO,

do you have pics of the Bushwacker flares installed with your 2. 5 " lift? I'm thinking this may be the way I want to go as well. My truck has 1 ton springs. I rode in a 4" lifted truck recently and the 1 ton springs seemed smoother!!

In any case if you have pics, I'd be interested in seeing them. Thanks.

Hey "B"!

Yes! That's the set up that I chose... . 2 1/2" SJ Frt. Springs & Bushwacker 'cut out' Fender Flares to clear 35" tires. I'm happy w/ the results, looks & function.

The only reservation I would have in doing it again would be the 40 hours of work I have invested in installing the flares & the tears in my eyes as I cut into the side of my truck. If my truck was a pristine First Gen I wouldn't have chosen this 'extreme' method.

Looks great but the installation hurts... :(

So all you guys did to level the truck out was to put 2. 5" in front and nothing in the rear? BTW I had a 83' 1/2 on with the SJ 4" kit and it rode like a CADILLAC, seriously it rode great. My 1-ton however with its not so new front springs that bottoms out on every bump doesn't ride so great. Better keep the window's up and your seatbelt on or you are going out the window. Almost lost the wife's dog the other day(darn). :D
