Skyjacker Soft Ride Suspension

Has anyone installed the Skyjacker Soft Ride suspension? I am tired of the rough ride and am about to order this kit and am looking for input before I do. The kit has two front springs, bushings, U-bolts, and add-a-leafs for the rear. Shocks are also included in the kit I priced. The salesperson also told me that I should purchase an adjustable drag link. His price for the drag link is $190. Sounds pricey to me. It is a third the price of the entire lift kit. Any advise on this. Thanks.

How big are you gonna go? I have the 6" Skyjacker soft rides on the rear of mine with no blocks, and the 2" fronts are on my garage floor. I really need to swap the fronts in so I can see how it will be. My truck rides better than it did, but still rides worse than any stock 1st gen 4x4 I've riden in. I don't think I'd put an add-a-leaf in if you want it to ride better. If you can wait, maybe I'll put my fronts in by this weekend and report back. That would give me good motivation to get it over with.

I have the 2. 5 inch in the front. I feel that they are better than stock, both in ride and the stance of the truck.

Go for it. It'll never be a caddy.

dont' get AALs. They will only make it stiffer. You have to replace the intire pack.



I have thought of pulling a leaf or two from my rear pack to maybe help some. I have the 1" skyjackers in the front and they made some difference, but not huge. Most of the rough ride is comming from the rear.



My dads old rig has hualed alot of bales on the balebed and it rides really nice doesn't sit near as high as it used to though.

I put the 2. 5" Skyjacker kit in my 1990 and loved it (pics in my reader's rigs). It rode pretty nice with the soft rides up front and 2" additional blocks out back. I had Monroe shocks before the new springs and thought I was going to have to change them, it turned out that they had about 1. 5" of extension left before they "bottomed out" at fully extended so I left them in. They were only about a year old and I didn't want to spend the $$ for new shocks unless I absolutely had to.

I put a pair of D100C's (1") on my '92 and it made a big difference. The original stock springs were sagging and the ride was terrible. I left the rear as it was with the original leafs with 6" blocks. I'll eventually change those out. 6 months later, the ride is still great and the truck sits perfect.

I have the 6" rears( without the 6"block for stock hieght) and the 2" ( i think) front springs. . I put the fronts on first which made the biggest improvment in the ride. My stockers were sacked out. . the backs helped smooth it out but if I were you I'd do the fronts first and see if that's enough... If you put a heavy load on your back once in a while I'd stay with the stockers back there. the soft ride rears will sag with a lot of weight. Camper, heavy tounge trailer etc.

If you are only going with the 2" fronts you may be ok on the steering. 4" or more and you will need the drag link or convert to cross over steering (better but more $$) Otherwise you will end up with lots of steering in one direction and none at all in the other direction.



There may be a chance that I still have an adjustable drag link off an old truck that I parted out. Will check for you.

Well... . I didn't get my springs in . Our weather hasn't been real co-operative here lately (dads driveway has more amenities than my garage ) so it didn't happen. Doesn't look like I'm gonna have the time for another month or so now. Just thought I'd let y'all know, so if you're holding your breath, please stop :-laf .

I had my stock drag link break with the 1" springs installed. Could have been caused from a number of things, but a new drag link isn't so bad... spendy, but safe.

I recomend an air ride 4-link suspension in back!!!!

Mostly just cause I want some one to help me design it!!!!!!

No lift kit. Instead I had the springs rebuilt. I had the short leaf taken out of the front pack and another long leaf added, with all leafs re-arched for an increase in height of 2-3 inches. In the back, a long leaf was also added and all springs re-arched to make the truck sit level. The front springs actually flex and don't bounce on the spring stop any more, and the back springs do not ride on the overload, so the ride is softer, not soft by any means, but not teeth jarring any more. I adjusted the steering wheel by taking my Borgeson steering shaft off the steering box and moving it two teeth to the left. The steering wheel is now straight. Another big improvement for less than $400.
