hey Scott,

I am going to call them tomorrow and get all the info but was thinking maybe some one would know. I will post the info here when I get it Brian. With no Snow plow prep and the weight of the winch and bumper over the last couple months the front of the truck has sagged. Time to deal with it.

I am about to put a 200 lb or so bumper on soon, and this means the next springs I get need to have a stiffer spring rate. Looking forward to what you hear Ted.

Brian

don't forget shocks too

Don't forget to go with heavier shocks also, most likely dual shocks. The spring rate really only sets the ride hight of the truck. Resistance to bottoming is mostly dependent on your shocks. I've learned a lot about suspension from my motocross racing experience! In motocross you set your ride height with springs. Everything else is relies on your shock dampening characteristics (compression & rebound). Basically if you go off a big jump and your susension bottoms out, it's because you need more compression dampening, it's not because your springs are too soft.

The same thing applies to trucks. So, have some custom springs made to get the correct ride height out of your truck, then look into some good heavy duty shocks, and you'll be set!

Thanks, in my case the shock issue is taken care of with Bilsteins and it rides great but the ride height needs to be delt with now. I am hoping to gain a 1. 5 inch lift over stock which is what I am assuming will be the case with the added weight as people with stock bumpers see 2" of lift. I could live with a full 2" if need be. If it proves necessary I will leave the Bilsteins in the stock location and get a set of ranchos rs-9000 to go out board of the spring and fine tune the ride. Off to call skyjacker

Ted

Ted,

I'm interested in what they have to say. I'm looking to do the same thing before I get my winch. ;)

Thanx,

Kevin M.

Brian I just got off the phone with skyjacker. The spring are variable rate with a starting rate of 405 and going to 445 at 3". This is the D25 2. 5inch lift spring. They also have a spring that is 45lbs stiffer for HD applications. MAy be appropriate for a reunel bumper but I am thinking the standard version will be fine with the DOR.

Kevin, I am having issues because I do not have the snow plow set up. You would not have as much of an issue but I had a funny looking truck when I took the topper of the back a couple weeks ago. It looked like to truck was going over forward. I have been comparing your picture of your truck to mine to determine how it is riding and I am sitting quite low in comparison to you.

He also said with the 280ish extra lbs on the front of my truck I would see 2" over what I see right now and that gives me 1" (I am guessing that is conservative) over stock height as I think I am riding an inch down right now. Also he asked me to measure in front of the rear tire on the body and behind the front tire to see the difference in ride height. NOT measureing the wheel well.

Cast issues are not a worry at less than half a degree for me.

I was just looking at Fritz's site and see that the spring rates are about a 038 to 039 so I am going to call Skyjacker later this afternoon and double check that he gave me the right info for the cummins trucks

Also check your springs themselves. They usually have a tag that states the spring number (IE: 38, 39, 46, 47) I have the 39 (Passenger) & 46 (drivers side). You probably do have the 38, 39 though.

Good luck.

Thanks Ted. I'll check later to see if you found out if the rates were for the Cummins. If they are the correct numbers, then I will probably go with custom springs. I'm not looking to gain too much lift, so the custom ones may be the best way to go.

I'm also going to put Rancho 9000's on when I get the bumper to help dampning.

Brian

Kev,

I check my springs everytime I am thinking of anything like this just to make sure they have not changed ;) I have 046/039 but I also have a much heavier transmission and longer wheel base. I can't imagine how this thing would ride with softer springs. I was thinking of just going to a 047 on the driver and moving the 046 over but they and more expensive each than the Skyjacker springs.

Ted

I wonder how the do their measuring

I've got a set of D45's that I was trying to get info on, but what they said didn't make any sense.

RKohn,

are those 4. 5 inch springs?? Just wondering how the numbering system works.

The numbers they gave me are suposedly based of 3500 springs but that does not add up.
