those of you that have skyjacker springs in the front did you need the U bolt kit or did you use the stock ones???

Also anyone tryed any other springs that are out there???

Stock bolts

I used the stock ones, but I also am using the Skyjacker SoftRide Springs. They have increased weight capacity but they feel like nice soft 1/2 ton springs. I have a 4"-over lift in the front and a 6"-over lift in the back. I didn't want to increase the number of leafs per pack, and that is how the Sift Rides work - something about the metal used and the better spring rates - allows them to use fewer springs - check out the pics in readers rigs, under the "Dually". Soft Ride = good stuff, and good price.

I am looking at a 2 1/2 lift, I want to keep the stock spring in the rear for now, I was just looking at the front springs and the install kit for now due to the $$$ the best price I have been able to find on the front and rear kit is about 900$ that just seems a little steep. So I was going to start with the front.

I was hoping someone else had found a cheeper way to go than the 360$ for the front springs and install kit.

I also am going to build a bumper and mount a winch I have in it so I need some weight capacity.

I put the front springs with add a leaf to level the rear out, keeping my stock rear spring pack. Overall lift in front ended at 2". This tracks with what techs at Skyjacker told me for install on cummins (read more weight). Rear add a leaf actually still resulted in a slightly downhill attitude in front when unloaded in rear, but with a little weight in bed or GN trailer hooked up, everything level. Did not have to mod front drive shaft either. However, did have to match shocks to new travel. Do search in archives, you should find numbers I posted.

On issue of weight, the Skyjacker spring pack contains 5 springs, while the OEM is 6. I have stock bumper, no winch, so can't offer much feedback on sag with attitional weight.

Put in 2.5s last month.

Greetings,

I just put in the skyjacker 2. 5s last month and love them. The ride is so much better than stock it is hard to believe it is the same truck. I replaced the stock rear springs and 6" blocks with a 6" skyjacker spring. The front was higher for about two weeks and then sagged down to level. I just put rs9000s on all four corners but honestly I am not sure about them yet - have not had a chance to try all the settings - and they suck to put on.

Now if I could find that huge CLUNK in the front that remains so ellusive... P. S. The second most impressive ride changing factor was the install of a 94 Dodge seat. I actually feel in control of the truck now instead of bouncing all over the cab. It is well worth the money and not that hard to install - Sonny's of Iowa had the seat - I don't know if he still has any that old. It bolted up to my stock mounts with very little modification to the "z" stock he sent with the seat. :D

Thanks for the response, from everyone

Where did you get the lift kit and what did it cost??

I like the idea of a 94 seat, I have a perfect red 92 seat in it now maybe when it starts to look bad I will find a 94 and have it recovered to match. The seats are alot better. .

Bcook1,

Does the CLUNK that you hear in the front occur when you are turning the steering wheel? I also had the clunking noise coming from my 92 4x4. Eventually, I found out what the problem was. Everytime I lifted the front end of the truck under the frame as opposed to under the axle the clunking noise started. If the front end of the truck is lifted under the frame the springs are pulled down by the weight of the front axle and the wheels and they may not reseat themselves. My solution to fix the problem is to take the truck to a parking lot and do a number of slow figure eights - no more clunking. My $. 02!

Different CLUNK

My front end CLUNK is definitely pothole/rough terrain related. It was there when I bought the truck. It was there after a professional inspection/alignment. It was there after new front springs. It was there after new rims and tires. It was there after new shocks. It is still there and is really annoying. If anything, the ranchos seemed to make it worse!!! I wonder if I don't have a body mount missing or if the rear of my front springs is hitting the frame under spring compression - this was a severe problem when I put a 6" kit in my 82 1 ton. I can't see the tell tale signs of contact but I wonder - the only thing that cured my 82 was a custom built set of front shackles that were longer. Thanks for the input - am open to any ideas I can get.

Softride source

Greetings,

I got my softride springs from Suspension discounters or discount suspension. I couldn't find an address anywhere except in an old issue of 4 wheel and off road - I think they are a mail order type place that buys from other places. I paid $800 for springs and bushings (front and rear)and they arrived quickly. Don't be surprised if the front springs sit uneven at first. They will sag at least an inch quickly. On my 82 I had to swap them to get the truck level - one was stronger than the other. Hope that helps. I will post more info if I can find it.

Klunk! Oh man, you just made my day:D After putting the Skyjacker springs in I noticed the klunk and wondered "... NOW WHAT?". Being busy, I thought I'll get to it later, and it disappeared. When I installed the springs I jacked the truck from the front of the frame to facilitate install, had it up and down a couple times during install. You just answered my question. I love this place:cool:
