Competition Charity Truck Pull

Competition What took us so long?

Hello all, here is a question that may sound dumb, But I do not know how to successfully pull a sled in stock street driven 4X4 class. Last weekend I was at the Berlin Fair in Connecticut, I had wandered over the Truck Pulls and they were running the Street 4X4 class. There were 4 24Valve Rams in the class, and they only went 2/3 the distance the Ford guys were going !!!! The CTD guys were basically taking up the chain tension, then putting up about half-power and not honking on it. As soon as the sled’s wheels were retracting the Rams were dragging down. The Ford guys went a lot further. A Duramax won the class, however he had a Kit in the front end, Ladder Bars in back and big knobby tires.

Now to the question; How would you pros run a mostly stock 24-valve Quad Cab Auto 4X4 with BFG 265/75-16 "E" BFG Rugged Trails? I need to know what air pressure to run in the tires, staging techniques, and power management techniques. Please help; I may feel the need to defend the CTD Legend :-laf Thanks, Moose

Stock motor and stock auto = short pull. Not really 2 ways about it. Even the "Street" class trucks are usually a long way from stock. Tire pressures and other setup techniques really depend on track conditions. Typically 25-30 psi up front and 45-50 in the back. Limit rear suspension travel to the least allowable and get your hitch to the max allowable height. Put the transfer case in low range, get the slack out of the chain, build a little boost and give it he!! One of the auto guys will give you a better idea what to do with the gear selector. Either way you are going to be struggling with a stock truck. Around here, Fords are typically the least competitive in street classes, Chevy's very strong and some Dodges very strong. Of course there are exceptions to this. Others with more knowledge will tell you more but thats my story.

I wouldn't, the Dmaxes will pound you. Start with the transmission, then you have a chance. :D

Sledpuller, what gives the duramaxes the edge? And, how can I find out if there are any sled pulls near enough to go see? Thanks
