Competition Axle breakage

Competition had to put the gasser in his place!

just want some tips, techniques on sledpulling! I will just be pulling at the local fairgrounds, and my truck will be a 06 6sp stock except for air and exhaust till i get a tst! what gears should i use? would really like to hear some insite on this and this will be my first time pulling!!!

Being an 06 what trans do you have? nv5600 or getrag , Sled pulling could destroy your stock clutch in one hook, so you might consider getting a pulling clutch if you want to play. Witch gear to pull in depends on several things, hp, IF you have a clutch, how bad you want to win. . lol what kind of track. . ie loose or tight, truck set up. . hitch height, hanging weights, tire size and tread, axle ratio.

Sled pulling is fun but can cost a bundle be prepared.

HAVE FUN

So true... . :{ in fact I'm considering pulling the DD if I don't do worth a $h-- this year at the few events I compete at.

Dual disc clutch! Your stocker will make you look like a joke. Gears, HP, and traction will determine wich gear to be in.

Don't do it! Once you do your truck will become a money pit, clutch, injectors, boxes, traction bars, cams, hitchs, turbos, and broken parts.

I pulled 2nd low and didn't have a problem, tried 3rd low and bought a new clutch, now I need more power :D

Pulling a stock 6 speed go for 3rd gear Lo range.

If you get the TST pull 4 lo with the stock clutch.

Just dont come out too hard until you get a clutch.

I can't tell you how to pull with a stock clutch because I have never pulled with one (stock clutch).

Scott,

I have seen some decent hooks out here on a stock clutch amazingly.

Of course thats works about once or twice if that.

By good hooks I mean they didnt come out hard and the truck made the pull.

Yeah 3rd is definitely easier on things.

I also watched a guy smoke a brand new clutch trying to come out in 4th.

The truck was a nice new 2004.

Thanks guys sounds like i better just set my a#@ on the side till i get a clutch!! Ive been looking at south bend clutches what would be a good one to go with that is really strong for pulling and still be streetable? Also some time down the road i will be up grading to a phat shaft turbo, can u guys let me in on what turbo would be a good one to go with?

I have the SouthBend 3850 12 Button ceramic clutch, the pedal effort is a little more than stock but I think it's pretty streetable. My wife drove it before I did and she didn't notice anything different, of course she is a woman!

From what I have read... . South Bend is the best clutch to go with. Call Peter, tell him what you want and the power you plan on putting down.

The Phat Shaft turbos are also very good. I'm thinking about the Phat Shaft 66 myself.

True, my dad has the same clutch in his 03 and it is fine on the street, you get used to the pedal pressure being a little more and he clutch is a little more grabby for sure. South Bend even sells a stronger clutch slave cylinder to help out.

Lots of variables with sled pulling as others have said. The main thing, is to go as fast as you can as quick as you can. Depending on the weight class, that weight comes up quick. 2nd/low range will not break anything, but you will not win either, it is too slow with the Diesel. Depending on your axle ratio/tire size, you will need 3rd or 4th low.

Sled pulling is fun, but when you tow your Puller 1200 miles one way, just for one hook, it kinda sucks  but I still do it :D At least with drag racing, you can run several time trials and as long as you win, keep racing.
