Do any of you guys know where used slide in cargo bodies made by Cargobody or Fleetwest can be found. I have searched the internet for days and have not been able to find any used cargo bodies available anywhere. I need one for my 2003 4x4 Quad Cab Short bed and these two manufacturers make top quality slide in's. They aren't cheap but they are made much more rugged than any topper on the market. They are warranted for off road use, utility companies, and military spec. etc.

I would appreciate any information.

TurboArtic, Yes, Spacekap & Cargobody are both the best I have ever seen. They are far superior to any of the high end Toppers I can find on the market. They are designed to be multi functional. I like the fact that they are warranted for off road use where as most of the topper caps are not. The rack system works great for ladders but is also great for recreational equipment such as canoes and kyaks. They are built to heavy duty military spec.

Now back to my original question. Do you know where one can find a good deal on either one of these slide-ins? Is yours on a short box or long box? What was the price, if you don't mind me asking?

I looked hard and long at everything out there... including Cargobody cargobody website . I got real lucky when I found a guy 4 blocks away from my house that had one, and has been using it exactly how I'll be using mine, in baja. It's the only one I've seen in SoCal. He said he got it from his dad up in Montana and I got a chance to look it over and he told me how it responds off-road as well as around town. We talked a few hours on it.

He had some good things to say about them, said you feel 'em back there on the road as well... they run 450-500 empty, and go up from there as you load 'em up. They're really solid, and very well made, rear doors and hardware are the very best I've seen, have great insulation value, and they're a bit on the butt-ugly side. It's definitely uglier in front of you than it is on a website. They're great because you can remove them with stands, like a camper, but I don't know how practical this is traveling. Might be nice at home when it's not in use though. I can't say enough about how well they're made.

2 things turned me off; cosmetics, and price. Good luck finding a used one. New ones run about 8-10K and more, depending on your setup. This price came from two different sources, but I never priced it direct from Cargobody. In the end, I went with a Caravan shell out of Reno. I flew up to where they make 'em and talked to the owner before I ordered it, just to check out the quality. It will suit my purposes better for Mexico, at less than half the price. The Cargobody definitely has it's niche in the market though.

sarj,Thanks for the info on Caravan Reno. I went to their website and was impressed by the design and function, but they seem to be more suited to your Baja ventures as I did not see any options for insulation, ac, etc. My needs are for more extreme climatic changes from extreme cold to heat and everything in between. The Cargobody or Spacekap seem to be more suited to my needs. The 450-500# unloaded weight should not present a problem as I have a Quad Cab 4x4 3500. I would not be worried about adding another 1,000-1,500# for gear, dogs, companion, equipment, & etc. Buttugly I can deal with as long as it is tough & functional.

Thanks for the input & reply.

The bigfoot is what I pull behind the truck. Mine is the 21'. That's well insulated with all the goodies. It's made the same as cargobody with the double-insulated shell. The campers are sweet too. I looked 'em over, but went for the trailer cuz I'm more of a "base-camp" traveler. It sounds like PR might be a bush-camp kind of guy, and campers & trailers can be a little awkward in the rough boonies. Worth looking at though.

ps- I hear ya on the lack of insulation on the Caravan, once I have the inside ribs mapped for racks for fishing poles and surfboards, I'm spraying in foam insulation with some paneling.

Wow, I actually saw a maroon 2G with a spacecap on it in Jackson last weekend on my way through to Alpine. I know it was a spacecap because I did a double take at the parked truck and thought "Wow, now I like the looks of that utility box/topper/camper thingamajig".

As for work-tough toppers I'd suggest looking at the Gem Tops.
