Standard Pin Box or Extended?

1st weekend with the toybox and "toy"

When you say will any older campers fit? I assume ( you know what that means), that the problem/concern is that the cabover portion will hit the cab?

If that is the problem you can build up a platform. I have heard of but not seen, some that are made out of 2x4's with a piece of plywood over the 2x4's and on the end they put a hinged door with a lock so that they can store fishing poles, brooms, whatever is long and skinny.

I have an older one. I had to put 2X3's under it to hold it up over my 5th wheel hitch rails. Now that somebody mentioned it, I think the cab over would hit the clearence lights when moving if I had not had to raise the camper to clear the 5er rails.

In one word "yes".

In many words as follows;

Mine is a mid 70's vintage slide in. I had to modify the back to fit the 95 Dodge. It 's not hard to rework these things if you have some good basic carpentry skills and a little patience. It fits the 2003 Ok with no modifications, but it is a tighter fit over the cab. The previous posts to this give some excellant ideas on getting more clearance over ther cab.

You can save a considerable amount of money by getting an older camper and fixing it up to suit your needs. I looked for one that was structurally sound, and everthing mechanical worked eg. fridge, stove, furnace. I even repainted everything inside and out, and it looks like it was factory done. This was largely due to expert advise from a good paint store and taking the time to follow the advise. The big thing that ruins a camper is a water leak that goes unchecked and it eventually starts to rot out the framing. Usually the roof is the culprit. Sorry for going on so long, but I've got a ton of experince in keeping my old fella alive. This is the 11th year I've had it, and we'll get afew more yet. Pete

Cab clearance no problem. Problem is width of bed at tailgate end of bed!!! Those who modified width of camper, could you E-Mail me some details of how you did this. I am cocerned about accidently cutting into shower or waste holding tank!

come to think of it, mine is a real tight fit. It has maybe 1/2 clearence on either wheel well, and if your not carefull, you can catch the tailgate latch pin on the DS edge of the camper. What I do is have somebody just lean on the DS rear corner when I am unloading it and it clears everytime, But the first time I did rip the corner trim off the camper unloading it!
