Ceraland?

EP 220 Gear Lube??

I have approx. 3000 slides (35mm) that I would like to digitize so that I can download them on my computer. I can take them to a photo shop and have them converted, but with the number of slides that I have it costs a small fortune. There are a number of scanners on the market that would appear to do the job. Any advice from personal experience as to which slide scanner does a good job will be appreciated.

I purchased the HP PhotoSmart PhotoScanner a couple of years ago and have been very pleased with it. It is a desktop scanner that can handle prints up to 5 x 7 inches, negatives, positives, and mounted slides. It has a negative and slide resolution of 2400-dpi which equates to slightly larger than 2000 x 3000 pixel images. The drawback is that you have to put extremely clean slides/negative into the scanner or every little dust speck is also digitized. This becomes extremely tedious. I often spend up to an hour with Photoshop after the scan just to remove these specks! So take the extra time and brush off your negative first. The good thing is that you can now store the digital images onto CD ROMs and any time one of your prints gets old and tattered, you just print off a brand new one.

I have that epson scanner. Very easy to use with the software. you can do 5 slides at a time but it has to scan each one individually.

Scans in BMP format or Jpeg. It has a plastic holder that if you turn it one way, you do slides, turn it, and you can do negative film. you have to use the software to do it and it makes it easy...

The Epson looks superior to my old HP now. The bottom line is that with 3000 slides to copy, it will take some time. But with 281 trillion colours and over 65,500 shades of grey I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results! :D

I have the Epson 1660 Photo scanner and like it a lot. It will hold 5 at a time but to have seperate pics they will scan 1 at a time but it is fairly quick and easy to use. It got very good reviews on CNet and the 2400 is the next step yp from the 1660 but make sure its the "Photo" model.
