How big a gain will I get sliding the stock plate forward vs installing a #10 plate? I can't afford a clutch upgrade yet, so I can't handle too much extra power. If I can increase my bottom end a bit and reduce some of the lag I'd be content for now - well maybe :D

I'm thinking of bumping my timing to 15. 5*, sliding the stock plate *some*, sliding the AFC forward, and putting on a boost elbow. I'm just wondering what HP/TQ numbers I'll see playing with the stock plate position.

Well, if you have a bench grinder available, I would highly recommend to take out your stock plate and slowly grind a half moon shape (#10) into your stock plate. The slowly grinding part is so you dont anneal the steel and make it soft. I did this to mine, then slid it forward about . 15" and man did it make a difference. Take the $ you were gonna buy a plate with and put it towards the new clutch. The boost elbow is only needed if you fuel past the turbo's limit, which you probably arent. You can plug the wastegate (but not the afc) and get some better boost numbers. . worked for me. . The timing will only affect EGTs in the upper end, and mebe some smoke in the lower end. I had mine bumped to 16° but I didnt notice much of a difference other than 120-150° lower EGT temps. .

good luck

do what he said. just be sure your not slipping your clutch. you probably wont have the fuel to, but if you plug the waist gate make sure your not over about 35psi. i had a 100 plate grinded and i could hit 40 psi with my elbow out of adjustment.

According to Mark @ TST ... 40 to 60hp in a 215hp pump. Multiply that by 2. 2 & get pretty close to the torque increase.

Thanks for the info, all! For now, I'm going to play around with the stock plate and the AFC to see if I can get the bottom end a little more responsive. I need brakes too, so the clutch and bigger power is going to have to wait a while. I just ordered TST's AFC Spring Kit. Should I go with the light or medium spring in my 215?

So that tells me 220 at the wheels when I've used the same plate and 3K's to make 376... ... ... and 400 is not out of the question but you will net plasma torch EGT's.

With stock plate all the way forward my truck made 235-245 RWHP with 15. 5 timing.

Now with the #10 with 3KGSK, intake and exhaust I made 346HP 812TQ RW. I also still have quite a bit of room to move the plate forward. So I should be able to find 375 and near 900 with the plate forward somemore!!
