hey everyone i got a 97' 12 v and i got a #8 plate and some other little goodies but im lookin for just a little more power and i read alot of how guys move their plates forwards to get more power. to what effect does moving the plate forward do and how do you do it properly? if anyone know's how to do this please let me know! thanks!

Welcome to the TDR, wes.

Just relax and have a seat for a few minutes and probably 20-30 dieselnuts will be around shortly to answer your questions. If you get bored while waiting you might want to check out the TST Products website - you can get to it by clicking on the "Links" at the top of the forum then follow your nose to aftermarket suppliers - engine - power enhancements - something like that. Once you get to the TST site look for installation instructions for the fuel plates. Pretty much everything you want to know is there. Have fun. :)
 
Moveing the plate forward allows more travel of the governor follower lever. Thus more rack travel and more fuel. EGT can become a problem so you have to watch that.
 
Locate the AFC housing on the rear top of the pump, it has the cover with the ALLEN wrench type hole in it. Remove the 4 bolts holding it and swing the fuel solinoid bracket off the AFC flange and remove it. Then loosen the 2 bolts holding the plate and slide it. Dont do it without gauges unless you have lots of extra money laying around.
