Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Sliding the plate forward...

Hello fellow members! My name is Scott and I have been a lurker for a long time. I need a little help with sliding the plate forward. I have seen it referred to a million times, but I am not too sure how to do it. If anyone has any detailed instruction or a link to a site that provides them, I sure would appreciate it. I have been a big block hot rodder for years, but when I bought my 98 2500 in June of last year, I was changed forever. I love this thing. Also, I am looking forward to meeting some of the other local members on Thursday evening in the Antelope Valley. Thanks for your help.

Since I have yet to set up a signature here is what I have. 98, five speed, straight piped and stock from there. Now comes the fun stuff... ...

Welcome aboard Scott.

Start here on the TST web site instructions for a plate install.



When you get to step 12 stop.

I had better luck drilling out the tamper screws to 7/64" and driving a T-20 tip into the hole and then removing the screw.

Continue

When you get to step 17 stop.

Scribe a line to reference the current position of your plate. Loosen the two big screws, slide it forward (1/16"?) and re-tighten the screws.

Follows the step to reassemble.



A 98 12 valve 5 speed. You should have a few droolers. Many consider this the best ever CTD RAM.

Welcome to the club Scott. I am sure when you go to your local meeting the others will be glad to enlighten you on how to slide your plate or install one of the after market plates. I is realativly simple to do. It is easy to explain in person but takes up alot of space to give detailed instructions here.

Wow! Thanks for the welcoming and quick responses. I wonder if I might be better off waiting and purchasing a cam plate since I am going to have it all apart anyway. Does sliding the forward stock have that great of an effect or would installing a performance plate give me a huge effect.

Numbers range from 40 to 60HP gain with sliding the plate forward. Those are all "heard" #'s not dyno #'s.

I've read it here many times before and believe it to be some of the best advice for getting started with power increases. Get your gauges. At the very least a EGT (pyrometer) and boost. Lots of nice ones to choose from. Have fun bombing.

not to change the subject but, i have a dyno at my shop and i strait piped the truck,k&n and slid the plate and it dynoed at 296hp@2500rpm what an increase. Ya thinkOo.
