I use the same oil and filter (buy 'em at the same place) as you and pour in the same amount of oil as you, but the dipstick reads half way between "Full" and "Add" mark. I use the same oil change intervals as you and after 5,000 miles the oil level is below the half way point and just above the "Add" mark. My truck has never "towed", only "hauled" heavy and has about the same mileage on it as yours.
I check my oil only in the morning before starting the engine. I don't consider this oil consumption. I think it's "boil off" of the volatile ingredients in the three gallons of oil.
BTW, this is my fourth diesel powered truck. . three Dodge CTDs and a Ford/IH. All on a "diet" of Fleetguard filters and Delo 400 15/40 oil at 5,000 mile intervals. There was never any oil consumption on the CTDs, but the Ford/IH diesel used a quart between changes.
