Hi There,

On Vacation and am here in Baltimore after a few days on the beach in Assateague. I have a few days that I won't be driving so I'd like to get your opinion.

On the drive I noticed some surging / shudder on the way down to Assateague and up to Balt. This shudder occurs in OD between 1800- 1900 RPM. When I floor it it disappears, when I lay off, it also disapears. this feels engine related. I've never experienced it but after spending 2 hours reading about it here I'll post my thoughts.

1. Clogged Fuel Filter - Changed it last about 3500 miles ago. Could be, I have a spare with me and will replace it. Unfortunately I have a semi-full tank so I hope it's not a bad load of fuel.

2. Dying Lift Pump - Sorry - No Fuel Pressure Gauge have one on order and it JUST arrived the weekend I was leaving. ( SPA - Been on order for like 4 MONTHS :mad: )

3. AIT sensor - Maybe? unsure about that one. It's speculation.

4. Turbo Wastegate stuck slightly open - Here's an interesting possibility. I installed a PDR HX35 w/ a 14cm housing just before I left. The interesting thing about it is that It came with an older Banks 14cm housing with the Big Head Actuater. This stated that it was rated at 43 PSI. I have tried and have not hit that psi yet. Most I've gotten is 32 psi. Interesting thing is at low boost (ie 1-5 psi)it sounds like it's working harder than it registers. (whistle) but the boost still shoots up at WOT. Unfortunately because this is a new turbo (to me) I have no base line numbers to compare it to so If you have a hx35 w/ a 14cm housing - post some comparison numbers please I may install a ball valve to close off the wastegate entirely to see if this is the problem. Also, I love this new turbo! It's real fun above 200 rpm and pulls the truck like the dickens. :D

5. Bad Comp - This is my second Comp in 3 months. It's run ok but I've been having a few glitches. Like the famous bucking in level 1. This has to be addressed and what I may do is call Aaron and see if he can send me one here ASAP.

However after reading this thread - https://www.turbodieselregister.com...204&perpage=15&highlight=surging&pagenumber=1 about surging I don't think it will solve it. I got alot of ideas about this issue reading this particular thread.

Any other insight will be very valuable to me (and others) I just hope I make it home with no problems.

Thanx

Kevin

I had this problem towing with my 1st VA box. It felt like the truck would shut down for a split second. I got a new box under warrenty and I've had no more problems. I read somewhere on here that putting electrical grease on the connections for the comp and on the back of the injection pump had solved the problem for some.

I would say it could be the lock-up clutch.

When my first aftermarket tc went out you swore that you were going to loose a wheel.

Give BILL K a call he will help you out!

{I've never heard of one DTT"S slipping a lock-up clutch but it is possible. }

The comp will surge on the higher settings with the cruise on. {at least mine does. }
