O. K. guys I dont know a whole bunch on this topic so I dont want to start trouble (I read Steves post on the transmission war) MINE IS STOCK. Just a quick question, I have these mods... EZ box, Afe torque tube, Green cold air box and filter, Magnaflow 5" exhaust(thnks Rip Rook). I was driving along yesterday and slowed down for someone to turn, I then (10-15mph) rolled hard into the throttle 3/4-7/8 the way down but not all the way it charged hrad then felt like it spun the tires for about 5-10 feet the hooked up again. Dont know what this means exactly?? My box was on level 2 And Ive had it leave some good long black marks this same way on new pavement. Pavement with a lot of diesel fuel or kerosene or whatever they spray on it. If you roll into it hard its got some boogie(compared to my 02 which my 05 would stomp) So I dont know if i let the tires loose a bit (pea gravle etc. i was in an intersection) or I just experienced my first slipping converter??? I dont know, your help is appreciated.

Generally if you slip the TC clutch you will feel the vibration and chattering right under feet and it will shake the truck pretty good. Unless you have modded the trans controls your TC won't lock under those conditions so you probably just spun the tires when the EZ kicked in. My 05 will turn sideways with less throttle and a slightly slick road at those speed. The PCM does a decent job of protecting the trans is just those scenarios. Annoys me to no end at times but my trans may last longer.

You say you did or didn't leave black marks on the ground this time? It wouldn't be your torque converter at those speeds cause it doesn't lock up then. You could have slipped a clutch or something like that maybe but I doubt it. I bet you just laid down some rubber :D

hello fellow members.

i am dusty hawk from htstransmissions.com.

torque converters shudder in lockup(45 milres an hour or above depending

on where the throttle is), so that probably is not it.

also remember though that the 05 48re does not have a throttle kickdown

cable anymore. they now have a actuator that controls the throttle valve

that bolts to the side of the trans case and reacts slower than the cable

operated one you are all used to. also the 48re has different seperator

plates and boost pressures to lock the tcc harder and also to help the 2-3

shift timing since chrysler changed the front band apply lever form 3. 8 to

5. 0 to one ratios that would cause more bindup.

long story short, you either blew the tires off in the road or it could not

kick down fast enough electronically and then tried to flare into third

because of revamped timing in the v/b.

it did not slip a clutch, clutches in automatics do not slip very long before

complete failure.

It definitely was tire slippage, not sayng I've ever done it though.

Thanks guys... all of you!!! I feel better now. I must say I love the new 48RE compared to my 02 47RE. This new body style truck is the best thing Dodge could have ever done Iv never been in a truck that will flat lay your ***** so hard back in the seat. Now I havent been in any heavily moded trucks but mine is the way I want it (need gauges and Im done) Im an AUTO guy sometimes I think I like them because so many guys are scared of the auto IM NOT AFRAID!!!! Ive had stick shift trucks I hate shifting all the time cause I do a lot of town driving.

P. S. I did a 100 foot (posi) smokie burnout for one of my borderlin PowerStroke buddies and he told me later he was very impressed :D

Dusty, you obviously know quite a bit about these autos.

I have a question for you. My truck will not break the tires loose on a power brake no matter how hard I try. Feels like the truck is defueling on purpose or the clutches are slipping. I do have wider 35" tires.

Any thoughts? Somebody told me there is a program change that can be made that will "fix" it Oo.

Dodge programming won't allow full power with brake on. pcm reads this off the brake

switch. Yes, exactly, it defuels it until you take your foot off the brake.

I believe bd rad box gets rid of this programming and speed limiter too. It will however

give you no tach or speedo over 90mph or something like that, don't know details never used one personally.
